Since you have both AVP & Q3…
Have you tried this out for fun?

That must be the dumbest article ever written about the AVP. I mean really, this guy either is just trolling or really dumb. Obviously the strength of the AVP is not the apps. It’s the technology, creating an optical fidelity way beyond what the Quest3 can offer. Of course you wont get that if you can run the same apps on the Quest3. It’s like taking the multimedia software out of a Ferrari, put it in your fiat panda and then write an article “See you don’t need to spend $500,000 on a Ferrari, just buy a Fiat Panda” And then write sentences like " It’s even harder to justify spending $500,000 on a Ferrari now". I mean he’s joking, right? RIGHT?
Anyway in other news, ALVR is available now from the app store so it’s become really easy to install it and mess around with it. I was surprised at how good it looks, of course depending the app. Its’ really nice.
Also I tried that free game “What if”. As a game, the game play itself is pretty boring. But damn this is a really awesome showcase of what the AVP can do. The GPU obviously is very powerful and it’s just such a delight to game with such high optical fidelity, it’s really an awesome demo to try, that mixed reality part is really really nice. I wasn’t too eager to try it, I hate disney and Marvell but everybody with an AVP should at least try it, it’s way nicer than I thought, I really enjoyed it !
The fidelity is great but it is the features that Apple has been toting as big. So if the Quest 3 had a refresh with the 4k Oled screens. Could the experience be close or on Par?
Even Apple is seeming stepping back to focus on a cheaper model with presumably using the same Screens. Showing that the Quest Xp can mimic features.
Allows ppl considering the expense to try out AVP like XP on a headset they currently own.
Now you want crazy look at VR1 with the number of versions to pick the features you want a included. They even have an AVP priced version
Of course the Q3 having lower quality display is going to have that against it. My proposal to you and @twack3r was to give the Spatial App a go and report on how well it works in comparison for ppl in a budget wanting an AVP like XP it might be good for the masses and help sales when Apple releases a consumer friendly model.
We can all agree Meta’s next hmd release will be focused on showing they have something potentially as good for a cheaper price point than Lite model.
You can see Zuck was bothered by the AVP release to start focusing on that the current Quest can do a fair number of AVP’s bling apps.
And of course now Sony is releasing their Enterprise Spatial headset.
In 3 weeks you can check it out at an Apple store in Canada @Heliosurge. Best to do that and you’ll see why this article is just incredibly stupid. Apple does VR like no other does, not even close. And that’s not because of the apps.
Except they are more targetting MR than VR.
Apple more than others will always have a more unique unified interface.
Earlier you stated
The hardware we know is great as they are using very new hardware vs the Q3.
I am not opposed to trying one directly But we know great hardware needs great apps to get the quality user XP.
Majority of articles add unnecessary fluff. As mentioned if you can get AVP like experiences as was even shown in the very early release. That is a good thing
No one who has spent the money on an AVP shouldn’t feel put off by DeVs developing App XP that mimic.
A Ferrari has very limited uses. But is a great collection of tech. I would place the AVP as more useful than a Ferrari overal.
It is safe to say Meta and other Hmds will close the gaps.
Keep in mind most hmd makers are targeting gamers. Did as they do instead of simply releasing a Qualcomm standalone headset. They did one better. Apple will not be fragmented like PC and Standalone hmds due to pure focus. And even with a very small user base has presumably focused getting ALVR on their platform working in record time.
Which also now they have the interest from enough of the public they are changing gears it seems to make a more consumer friendly headset that will also likely take consumer feedback on the missed.
The sad thing really is how Apple has trumped Varjo with a much better product it seems overal.
It should be interesting to see Apple’s so to speak version of the Aero.
Either way the AVP while has not been as successful as Apple has hoped. It is successful enough to move forward with a lite version vs making a v2 pro this early.
Though the naysayers will continue to attempt to make it look otherwise.
I imagine you will like it if you try the AVP. Clearly its priced too high for most people but optically it’s top notch in multiple ways and worth checking out if you haven’t. As a device its very powerful but of course limited by Apple’s fairly extreme closed garden.
As for what their expectations were for it the initial production run numbers does provide a bit of a view into their thinking which for them was quite a modest number. I think they mostly view this as a launching pad for future things but the fact they reportedly cancelled or curtailed their high end (but cost reduced) edition is indeed concerning. It seems they are going to try to find a way into the $1k/price point.
ALVR support does expand the AVP use to outside the ecosystem. With how fast they gained support suggests Apple invested in making that happen.
Pimax needs to even with the release of the Wigig. Need to see about getting ALVR support for the week for 6e.
This is quite humourous.
Meta adding another AVP inspired feature.
These types of things are quite cool as it shows clearly how much AVP is influencing change
The app though may get into trouble with it’s name.
Added Tag group to newsfeed as well as tag for “The Verge” & Article(for news sites not in tag list.)
So now this category is further organized.
Ie
RoadtoVR\Apple-hmd
RoadToVR\Meta-Hmd
With the RSS feeds though have to apply the extra tags a couple of times until the plugin not pulling those recent topics.
This details how the bat but worked. Pretty cool.
Visited apple store covent garden London yesterday
Told 12th July for demo of AVP and book online
Pretty big: AVP controllers coming soon: Vision Pro Could Be Getting Controllers Soon from This Third-party Creator

Just was going to post link. Controllers from Surreal Touch. So here is a supplementary article. Looking great in the front.
Surreal touch look good despite the accuracy being a little loose (10mm) compared to existing lighthouse and Meta slam solutions
