yeah for future headsets sold or the ones going to kickstarter backers?thats what i dont get
I can imagine the old panels will still go into production of the Chinese domestic market version, and perhaps the new panel for global market version. It would only make sense this way. If they wanted to sell globally.
Regarding Display Optimization
Display evaluation and testing are still ongoing. In our previous evaluation and testing, after updating the firmware, the peak brightness of the display is adjusted to 3000nit and the proportion of high electrical levels in the whole cycle is reduced to 30%, which will theoretically improve the motion blur issue. We will conduct more testing this weekend; and we will test several aspects, including display life, heat dissipation, motion blur, brightness, etc., to see if there will be a major impact on arpara.
Totally unrelated , but I’ll tell you a funny story.
The Arpara has be obsessed with OLED again. I’m so tired of seeing grey.
I’ve been pretty obsessed with the Cyberpunk 2077 & Resident Evil Mods for the last couple of months. I’ve been in and out of the 8KX and Quest 2 tweaking settings etc.
So last week I decided to blow the dust of my OG vive just to see what the performance would be like for Cyberpunk on a lower res headset not expecting much.
OMG, these games look literally 10x better in the OG Vive. They look so good I literally dont care if the screen door looks like a checkerboard. This got me salivating for the Arpara which will have those gorgeous blacks and the highest resolution and PPI we’ve ever seen on an OLED headset.
Of course the really downer here is that the brightness of the display is a giant question mark, theres no way it will compete with the OG Vives panel brightness, and brightness is the Ying to the OLED’s yang. Hopefully those new panels they might be putting in will help. but I have my doubts.
Your story is exactly how I feel.
I’m done with LCD panels, the amount of dust on my 8kx is a testament of how much i hate LCD panels, and also the DMAS whine. Tired of ppl saying “It’s really not bad at all, just not as dark as OLED”, just no, stop. Grey sucks, it sucks. You know it and I know it, please stop convincing ppl its not that bad, deep down you know it sucks, or you wouldn’t be searching for a new hmd, right?
Dunno why there aren’t more of the through the lens arpara videos, I managed to find some on the taobao website under arpara reviews. I must say those TTL vidows looked so good, sharp and the blacks is amazing. I’ve not seen TTL looked this good really.
Really excited about the arpara and even better if it could come with the better panel.
bruh imagine if arpara aint working with lukes mods,im hanging myself
Wait ship me your headset first.
Very good video, he pointed out the flaws and intelligently described them and that they are fixible and no deal-breakers depending on how much of a tinkerer you are. This was much better than Mike from VR Oasis basically glossing over the good and trashing it for not having a comfortable headstrap and face foam.
I mean not one person thought the cloth headstrap that shipped with the Quest 2 was good and the facial foam literally put kids in hospitals, but hey Big Daddy Oculus is sponsoring us so…go buy a Quest and sell your data to FaceBook/Meta.
After watching this video, I am now delighted that this product is right up mine & I guess anybody who owns a Pimax’s alley.
Seems like this headset is capable of bringing me exactly what I am looking for that my current headsets can’t and if it takes a bit of duct tape to make it happen so be it.
Got an email today to confirm my shipping address. Could this be the first Kickstarter in history to meet their deadline?
We’ll see.
I’m not surprised as a less refined domestic version had been on the market for a few months, and this is building upon that.
But I’m still delighted if it receives the panel upgrade and ships in April. My game backlog is piling up badly waiting for better vr.
yep same looking good
just wondering he says the diopter isnt that great but what about people with no glasses needed?would we get issues because of the diopter or we can just leave it to zero
I thought the headstrap on that was great! Very simple, easy to take on/off, yet functional. I never upgraded it. But I sold my quest 2 a couple of days ago, it just wasn’t being used. I got back 80% of what I paid for it.
It was a good informative vid with no mention of colour shift or being too dim (just shows how subjective these things are). If you’re not expecting perfection (and no hmd is perfect atm) I think you’re gonna enjoy your Arpara, I hope u get it in a timely manner.
Watch it again , you missed both.
oh shoot did i miss it? i did watch it start to finish, i must be getting senile.
It was very fast, blink and you’ll miss it.
It was interesting that he focused on the diopter as an issue, when others didn’t. It’s mad that they didn’t go for external adjustment controls like the Meganex. Being able to adjust while looking through the lens would obviously be very nice. That said, it’s a convenience, quality of life thing and not a deal breaker. Definitely an issue for a mass market but fine for any enthusiast or tinkerer.
I think this headset is going to be pretty good tbh, I’m glad I backed it. The Resident Evil mods will be a blast. Been waiting for the Arpara before jumping in.
I said the same about Quest 2
Honestly, I don’t think any of the other reviewers actually “used” the damn thing. I heard that Thrill had the device at the same time the other guys did, and the fact that he is just doing the review now proves that he really wanted to give a real review of the unit he got rather than just capitalize on the Hype of being “first”
The impression he gave me was the most honest of all of them, Some of his findings are only things someone who actually liked the device (or saw enough potential in it) enough to actually use it over a long period of time would pick up on.
Maybe that’s why he was able to talk about the diopter issue.
Even Cyberpunk is like a totally different game with OLED. I’m “legit” using my OG Vive to play it because despite the screen door and low res the game looks 10x better in it.
If you have an OG Vive or Vive Pro, Samsung Odyssey just for fun try them on again and play Resident Evil you will freak out.
Sheesh - I have a TV that can get up to 1800 nits in bright HDR (Samsung Neo QLED). When I played an HDR Xbox game without calibrating it, the game literally hurt my eyes to play it. And that’s a TV! Imagine being literally blinded by a VR headset blasting 3000 nits less than an inch from your eyes in a light-controlled headset. Better hope they don’t have any bugs!
Pancake lenses absorb a metric ton of light so by the time it gets to your eyes it’s effectively a lot dimmer. It’s why panels for VR headsets need to be so crazy bright because of that, lenses in general blackhole a lot of the brightness.
