Anyone tried Borderlands VR?

I don’t know why it isn’t working but here is the source: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamVR/comments/dmahsh/borderlands_2_to_vr_file_dumpini_tweaks_progress/

Does not work. He is fooled. the vanilla textures are not bad. i compare at the dart-board. the normal version on ultra has a much more detailed texture, missing the gray badge in the lower right. big difference.

will look more into the willowDLC.ini

Well I think the mancana dlc is sharper then the original.

Playing around for a couple of hours with the shadow settings. shadow pop in (or pop in of lod half shadow resolution) is annoying.

Need to understand the settings in the willowengine.ini

shadow quality increases do decrease performance not much. I will let you know as soon as i have a nice smooth gradual shadow setting.

I did also check the nexusmods website for Borderlands 2 mods. There is a complete Borderlands 2/pre sequel mod manager software, including hex modifications of the .exe(s). Stunned that there has nobody tried to make the hd textures working in vr

Tried out of curiosity to play via oculus from pitools.

Works much better! No need to minimize desktop window (with steamVR there is a 60Hz limit if not minimized), descriptions of all the oculus buttons in every menu(!), better performance, clearer picture - better to read hud.

Just go into your pitools, games, import game, go to your Borderlands2VR directory/Binaries/Win64 and select the Borderlands2VR.exe.

If you start it and you see the Oculus controllers and steamVR doesn´t start, then all is fine.

I just tried a new game with my htc vive and you are right the HD dlc dousend work. I just look at the fireplace from claptrap home and there are 5 lines instead of 4 lines see video at 0:29 min Borderlands 2 - Original vs UHD Textures Comparison (in 4K) - YouTube

You have to enable all DLCs ingame. But because the Files are just copied to, the HD textures Pack does not show up ingame. Must try to alter the willowDLC.ini file.

I tried altering the willowDLC.ini but it doesn’t show in the game I only see the bamf dlc

Does the BAMF dlc show up as downloaded? Somehow there is something wrong with my installation. Steam does the download but ingame it shows up as not downloaded. I did not alter willowDLC.ini so far.

Well I can play as krieg but the game says that it is not downloaded but when I click at download I go to the steam page and I see that it is installed.

okay, then that´s “normal” :crazy_face:

Yeah the port is bad but we can play it. I hope we can play it with the HD dlc in the future to get the game sharper. Did you test the game without the pp in import game pitool?

yes, read about it a few posts earlier

You tested only the steamvr way with or without pp not with oculus way

I tested all.

  1. SteamVR without pp -> bad

  2. SteamVR with pp:
    -after game start you need to minimize the desktop window and you need to enable the music output even when minimized windows in the ingame menu.
    -okish performance (around 2700v pixels)
    -every first run the controllers are swapped (right<->left) - close game and run again.
    -need to load a controller profile for index controllers. standard 2k one sucks. No ingame controller descriptions

  3. oculus mode (import in pitools game menu)
    -no problem with desktop window. immediately full fps
    -sharpest picture
    -best performance (can´t check vertical resolution but think with pitools settings 1.0 it´s around 3200v pixels)
    -slightly problem with hud because somehow the hud gets horizontal squeezed and hud life and shield display gets dislocated

Need to find out a way how to scale the hud vertically differently. should be no problem as the borderlands none vr series has ingame options to resize the hud. need to play with .ini values again :crazy_face:

Best shadow settings so far (willowengine.ini):
MinShadowResolution=1024
MinPreShadowResolution=512
MaxShadowResolution=2048
MaxWholeSceneDominantShadowResolution=2048
ShadowFadeResolution=0
PreShadowFadeResolution=0
ShadowFadeExponent=0.010000
ShadowTexelsPerPixel=1
PreShadowResolutionFactor=1.000000
ResX=1280
ResY=720
last two define the size of the desktop mirror window

ingame/grafic settings:
view distance: Far
AnisotropicFiltering: 4x
Texture: high
AmbientOcclusion: off
Leafs: close
Details: high
FXAA: off

Does anyone know if i can somehow activate Oculus ingame performance monitor?

What I can remember start the game with small fov and when you are in the game change it back to normal fov then the hud should be good. Try a couple of times.
