Just curious whether we increase it or decrease it should we alwasy keep left and right the same or not? not really sure how to do this.
For most people you’d keep this the same per eye. If in real life your eyes are at different vertical heights then you’d set them differently.
TBH - if the headset isn’t tight enough it tilts diagonally. For me at least, there’s a margin of error with vertical IPD before I get annoyed. If you’re not uncomfortable I wouldn’t mess with it too much.If you are going to mess with it, I’d start by keeping each eye the same.
You should try to physically fit the HMD so that the centres of both lenses are at the height of their respective eye, which means wearing it slightly twisted*, if your eyes have a slight vertical asymmetry, and only ever change any of the software offsets as a last resort.
( * …which is perfectly fine; The HMD knows is it rolled, and the viewports will be rendered accordingly, just through its regular tracking.)
It changes world scale. You can actually do it on an Index etc in the command line somewhere but it is called something different.
Start with them both the same. You’ll quickly tell how it helps or hinders for you and it happens instantly.
So in real life when I close my left eye and look at an object its lower than when I close my right eye and look at something by a noticeable amount. I can replicate this by setting right to -2 and leave left at 0. I’m not sure if this is what I’m suppose to do or not, it still feels weird though
for me, this tool is mainly helpful to correct a vertical difference between both eyes height.
I tried tilt HMD left/right VS a 0.5 vertical IPD difference, and I always return to the second solution.
it looks like adjusting the headset position doesn’t lead to the same result as playing with a slight vertical IPD difference.
Now, what I DONT understand, is the effect of a strong IPD setting for both eyes , in + or in -, and in what way it is supposed to change the world scale.
it does change something, strongly, but I don’t understand the reason why.
Technically this is just a vertical offset, right?
So why putting both at -10 or both a +10 is supposed to change world scale?
Does someone have an explanation?
