A bit dissapointed

I just received my Pixmax 4k and I have a full row of dead pixels. After installing Piplay I discovered that other than first screen everything else is not available yet (“coming soon” is message on all screens). The lens quality is not the best ( I can see vertical lines that are not screen quality related.).
It’s either I got a “lemon” or the product quality is not the best as they advertise.
I’m getting ready to RMA the product to gearbest and hopefully the replacement will have better quality.

Peace,

Keep us updated. It’s precisely this kind of stuff everyone who hasn’t ordered are worried about.

@mikem thank you for choosing Pimax 4K. the vertical lines you saw is not a quality issue. The lines are on the blue light reduction lenses. When you put on the Pimax 4K to experience VR, the lines will be invisible, very little impact to your experience.

@mikem For the “coming soon” pages, the content will be available in a short time, we are working hard on this. You can experience SteamVR content before then. Sorry to keep you waiting…

Than you for the quick reply.
I think everyone who bought the Pimaxvr would like to have manual controls over IPD and myopia because the “auto” function looks like is not functional.
Another big thing I would like to have is Android support. PimaxVR + Nvidia shield console = The ultimate home theater

One of the issues I struggle with is to get PimaxVR to run at full resolution out of my TitanX (hdmi - output). If you guys have any idea how to do it will be welcomed.

Than you again,

Mike

Hi Mike, For the Android support, Pimax can run on Android, but the some code in Android need to be changed for Pimax. We have run Pimax on some Android TV box for experiment. Pimax VR cannot runn on Nvidia shield console now because of no code changes.

For the resolution of Pimax, please refers to other topics in this forum, thanks.

Can you make it to work with Nvidia Shield Console?
I’m sure that you can add the feature in the firmware so Android Tv can detect it as a display. It’s all I need…Kody will take care of the rest

MXZ - Is it possible to remove the filters or buy a version without them? They seem to make everything look too dark and not as sharp.

Try to adjust color to cold color in the setting interface.

Dzeek, Sorry to tell you that it’s not possible to remove the filters. We tuned the display quality with the filters, the display quality will be very bad if we just remove them. And we don’t have a version without them to sell yet.

Can you supply replacement optics for those with optical problems (center blur etc), that are apparently due degraded lens coatings?

I think there are some of us who might be inclined to attempt a repair rather than get hit with the cost of sending our faulty units back to Gearbest. And here’s the other problem with returning our units to Gearbest: if what you guys are saying is true and there are in fact units without the blur problem, then I definitely want one. But I don’t trust Gearbest not to send me another faulty sample, or any other seller for that matter.

In other words, I’d much prefer to get my unit working properly than return it, and I’m quite happy to disassemble the entire thing and replace the optics if I have to (I’ve successful repaired multi-element camera lenses before and I doubt this would be more of a challenge).

We don’t suggest our customers to fix it by themselves because it is difficult to fix it. If customers break it, it will becoming a big problem to fix it. And we can not fix it for free.
If your Pimax have some quality problems, we will check it and try to give you a new one. Such as gearbest, in fact, we are contacting that company and try to get it back, and try to make customers do not need to pay that shipping fee. So if you have blurry problem, please contact our E-mail: support@pimaxvr.com

Again, here’s the problem: I don’t trust Gearbest to send a replacement that doesn’t have the same problem. I mean the sample I have arrived in a box that was literally turned inside out and taped back together, and there were signs that it may have already been used (a scuff on one of the labels, and screws on either side near the front that aren’t exactly the same – I don’t know if that’s normal or not, or if it means a previous owner had already opened it or whatever). Does that sound like quality control to you? It was quite shocking really.

Sure, this is a reseller problem. I’m not blaming you for the packaging, or the condition. But I’m sure you can understand that I don’t want a replacement from Gearbest. So what choice does that leave me? A refund, that’s all. And a refund is fine, but I’d rather have a working product. So how do I ensure that I get one?

I realize that you’re busy with helping people with returns and other problems via email (myself included), but you must understand the dilemma here.

MXZ, Understood. Is there any way to increase the brightness? My “gold standard” for 4K stills and videos right now is the Xperia Z5 Premium in a Google Cardboard compatible headset with IPD and focus adjustment knobs. 4K is much brighter and sharper than the PIMAX.

Dzeek, now the brightness is tuned to the highest, can’t be increased by software anymore, sorry.

When you say “now” do you mean with a recent firmware update? If so, which one increased it?

Firmware does on effect on your brightness but to switch to the cold color.

@MXZ I wonder, could you perhaps enable MHL support for Android phones?

Hi,
I own the pimax 4K, my goal is to use it with a android tv-box.
I own a tv box as well, and i want to run it on my pimax, that gives the pimax a lot of futures(me to;-)).
Can you give me some hints to make the tv-box run with the Pimax? i have basic linux experience.
For now i will have some experiments with the resolution, but the tv-box don’t recognize the pimax.

regards,
Alan
