Replaced original SMAS with KDMAS with soft pads attached, so that it covers ears fully, and immediately noticed very annoying noise. White noise is ok, but there is also high pitched hiss which is very fatiguing and annoying.
Now when I play games the sound is already loud enough at some 20-30 out of 100, i.e. the internal gain is set too high. I don’t use Y-splitter and plug left and right speakers directly into HMD.
Guys from Pimax, is it possible to control the amplifier via software? Could you, please, add an option in PiTool?
Otherwise will have to solder some resistor in series with each speaker. But it will be not very comfortable, if later I decide to remove soft pads and thus will need some higher volume again.
My understanding is that the standard KDMAS isn’t really compatible with the 8KX. (So much for “modular”!) The 8KX headphone expected impedance is higher than the 5K+ and 8K. The “correct” way to fix it is to install the “true” DMAS earphones, once they are actually available.
You’ll need to find some temporary solution until then.

Try connect Pimax usb port to dedicated for audio noice free usb port or buy hub. Some mobos have 1 or 2 isolated usb port . You can also buy dedicated audiphile usb card. Like this one : PPA Studio USB v2 - Karta kontrolera USB card clock - do PC-Audio
Did you unplug the usb power from the headset before connecting your KDMAS? From what I understand you have to do that to avoid electronic noise when connecting ear phones.
You must use the Y spliter connected to the left connector .
If it is just the amplifier being too loud (most likely), a simple attenuator will do the trick. Get a pack of 1% precision resistors (the blue ones), some TRS connectors, and try a few pairs resistors in line on the stereo wires (not ground) from 8Ohm to 75Ohm. You may also add resistors after these resistors, between outputs and ground, to form a proper L-Pad, though this is often unnecessary.
Myself, I know 75Ohm resistors work well as an attenuator to reduce noise/hiss with a DIY audio headset otherwise made from a pair of Skullcandy earbuds, a bluetooth receiver, some heavy gauge wire that was around, and zip ties. Surprisingly, it is extremely practical if arguably unsightly.
When I want good audio, I select my pre-amp in audio setup (Focusrite) and wear my studio headphones under my HMD. Strangely for an audio creator, I’m not that fussy about it in games.
Still, I HAVE considered getting a pair of Bose ear buds and using them!
Cheers
You can also use the volume buttons on the headset.
As for hiss. Try tapping the connectors under the pads as it might be a source of possible interference.
