Did that only move the right lense as I thought they would move together?
guess what fix? I guess it will be brightness kill
My Review is even worse, I still can’t focus my (dominant) right eye in any case. I’m waiting for the thick foam, but I don’t think it will help too much.
My rating of the an unusable 8KX, 0/10 in it’s current state, left in the box.
I totally agree.
It seems that they find it normal that, rather than making a visor that is capable of adapting to each person, it is the person who has to have an eye, head and face operation to adapt to its bad design.
If that’s the fix, which it probably is and there is no alignment issue fix I’ll be returning it for a refund
Only the right lense moved, the other was stationary.
Ok, seems there is even more inconsistency with this product as both of the lenses move on the unit i have here.
Indeed it does beg the question. Like many others who have recently received their 8KX, I have most of the same issues mentioned.
- mura
- slightly out of focus in one eye no matter what I try to resolve it
- miniscule, almost pin hole, sweetspot that both eyes never hit together
- a general blur that surrounds that pin hole sweetspot
- “comfort kit” is not a word I would use to describe it. They achieved kinda the opposite with this hmd being front heavy and the cheap quality of the face foam. Except for the rubberized coating upgrade on the hmd itself, the build quality is not what I expeted for a premium headset…the headstrap feels/sounds flimsy as you adjust it and the smas speakers are quite useless so I use a BT headset. PIcture is great as long as you laser focus through a pinhole and don’t breathe or you will lose it
Hahaha yep comfort kit is laughable. Even worse is the vision comfort kit as they call it. Really “vision”, maybe through 1 eye, possibly, sometimes
Makes me wonder if there are those who attended the “VR days” Roadshows, have noticed or have a different take on the final product from the one they tested months before.
I think they added weight to the headset at the last minute with a component and it knackered up the balance point the SMAS was based around. Having said that I quite like the SMAS, definitely prefer it to my Vive DAS, but I know many don’t.
I’ve seen 1 guy who tried it at the roadshow and has his own now and was also seeing the issues. Not sure who it was though. There’s also MRTV, who tried it at CES then got the pre production and said it wasn’t great. Apparently there were improvements after that so i hate to think how bad it was then compared to now!
people are having to get/modify after-market counter weights, when just wearing the hmd during R&D and noticing the obvious balance/comfort issue then perhaps building into the back head-padding a weighted/shaped base (for comfort-balance) would have been so easy, you would think.
Yup, that would be interesting indeed. Seems like something fishy for sure is going on and I expect with a bit of time we will find out. I’m very nervous about receiving mine - after spending £1650 pounds on it including import charges! It’s looking like it might have been the biggest purchase mistake I’ve ever made - I so hope not though. I’ve been following Pimax closely practically every day since the announcement of the kick starter campaign and I expected the receiving of the 8KX to be the climax final what ever you want to call it moment - but it’s looking like it might be the ultimate disappointment.
From what i’ve seen so far if your IPD is high 68 - 70 you should be sort of ok.
It may sound it, but I’m not entirely negative on the 8KX. My tone admittedly is slightly saracatic when describing issues like the pinhole sweetspot but I was hoping (for the price point) and after the Roadshow impressions for a more complete vr solution and upgrade. It’s just the big discrepancy between road show impressions, that were designed to give a future buyer ease of mind and investment confidence, and the final consumer product we now have in hand. Visual clarity and comfort were not issues I had hoped to be fiddling with again as a 5K+ upgrader. I want to like the X and be satisfied, and yea there are times when visually it looks pretty amazing but difficult to maintain that sweetspot.
Well, yes, you probably shouldn’t change the weight of the HMD AFTER you’ve designed the SMAS around a certain weight and balance point.
They made a big mistake switching out the face foam and only including the new one as well. That was just asking for trouble.
Go in with an open mind, many are happy. It is excellent if you can get it to work for you, which you might well.
Haha yeah I called it the “DIScomfort kit” cause that’s what it adds: discomfort. The original 5k+ gauge is much better. Then the whole hinges problem is of course even beyond words, I’m not even sure how they could f*ck this up like this… Also the sound is of course very bad and the lenses are still bad, too bad Pimax doesn’t even seem to care about the lenses (or they claim that the lenses are fine). The brightness is too low. The resolution however is just STUNNING. But if you summarize it all, then UNFORTUNATELY I can’t conclude anything else than that @mixedrealityTV was right and the Index still is the best headset on the market…
I think I might sell the X. Really looking forward to the G2
This is exact my opinion, the resolution is stunning. But there are more bad things at the moment then good things.
Mura, low brightness, lenses, lightbleed right eye at the top(you will see it with dark scenes)comfort, audio all need to be fixed.
Its a pitty i like the resolution and the new pimax experience(they did a great job with this) i am also curious when i get my reverb g2 to compare…
Totally agreed, I really like the PE, it’s a huge step for Pimax in the right direction. But it can’t make up for the other problems.
