Received my 8KX today. Have a quick question, hopefully someone has a workaround.
8KX initial setup was going smoothly. Upon installing pitool v264 and plugging in the HMD, was greeted with the Pimax home image, and then went through steamVR setup. HMD icon appeared, and was able to pair index controllers no issue, as well as my v1 basestations.
Went through the room setup, which seemed to go well. Floor properly calibrated, boundaries ok, controllers tracking smoothly… except the headset appears to be high and outside the playspace (when I am physically in the middle of the playspace). It also is not able to move fore or aft withing the VR environment, almost as if it was using the 9-axis mode instead of lighthouse tracking. I did try switching between 9-axis and lighthouse modes, restarting piservice between changes, restarting my computer and steamVR.
Has anyone come across this issue, with the 8KX or other Pimax headsets? Any known workaround?
Yes, did room setup. HMD was in the middle of the floor, close to index controllers (but not blocking line of sight between lighthouses and controllers).
Room setup seemed to complete as it normally does. Except of course, when putting the HMD on, in the virtual view, my viewpoint is a few meters away from the playspace (despite being physically in it), and also a couple meters too high. I can look around fine, but if I step forward or backward the view doesn’t change. Again, seems like the HMD is operating in 9-axis mode, not lighthouse tracking mode where you can move freely in the 3d space.
I can try re-running the room setup again tonight, but wondered if it might be a problem others have experienced and had a workaround.
If i remember corect it was only 1 controller I placed on the floor when they asked then walked around marked were conrner was, the hdm I simple had on my chair.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried wiping the config, restarting the PC, the HMD, and PiService. Getting the same behavior.
In pitool, the basestation icons seem to only light up blue when I power the index controllers on. But I still have no HMD tracking (I do have visuals as described above). When I turn off the index controllers, a few seconds later the basestation icons start blinking blue, then change to no color (ie not detected).
One time I did have the base station icons lit up blue with only the HMD powered on. Have no idea how I did so, nor have I been able to do that again. I did seem to have HMD tracking, I was on the pimax moon landscape background, but this time, clipping through the ground. That was the one time I believe I had HMD tracking.
Any other ideas?
Also, anyone know what a blinking green chevron means on the front of the headset? That is what I’m getting with no HMD tracking. Wonder if blinking chevron means 9-axis mode?
