Have been using BigScreen while playing with the contrast and brightness features. Reading webpages and watching a Netflix movie. Going down with brightness one or two steps turned out to be better for the movie, indeed. But increasing contrast didn’t work so well for me as it ate into the details of text characters and UI elements - everything gets washed out more. But brightness -2, contrast 0 looks good, indeed as a default!
For me the comfort kit isn’t perfectly comfortable yet. After watching the movie for half an hour I was glad to get it off my head again. Thing is - if I untighten it then I easily move out of the sweetspot. Have to play around with it more.
There was too much pressure on my cheeks and forehead.
But have done further experiments. The velo strap that goes over the head wasn’t optimally adjusted, it had to be much tighter, so it lifts the headset more and the counterweight can do it’s work better. Still not “you forget that you wear it” comfortable but much better. Was able to watch the rest of the movie now

Yes as MR-Alex stated, it’s the Red colour channel that I set to +1, I’m by 5K+ it’s a tad blueish and cold.
Other than that I use -2 in brightness
I won’t go into my everlasting rant about color calibration, but will just wait patiently for my 8K X’s to arrive

I received it without having to pay anything extra.
I already had to pay customs+VAT for the entire Kickstarter pledge when I got my second (RMAed) 5k+ loaner though. The customs guy didn’t accept the loaner explanation (nor that it was actually RMAd) and meant I have to pay everything now. And if I get the final headset I can provide the papers and don’t have to pay again.
So I was prepared to have to send papers back and forth, praying that the responsible customs guy would follow the same logics as the previous one and I don’t have to pay twice.
So either they still had that somehow in their system (which would exceed expectations) or Pimax payed everything for me this time or it just went through. (Wouldn’t have a bad conscience in that case as I have payed for this already)
Didn’t try this yet, have only changed brightness for everything to -2 and left contrast at 0 after some attempts. Also don’t see the picture as particularly color tinted. But will try it out!
Ok, changed the contrast of red to 1 while leaving it at 0 for blue and green. This gave me a red tint, imho leaving all colors in sync gives me a more natural perception. But I didn’t try out reference images, just a movie. Which is usually chroma keyed. But looked more than I would have expected it.
Did anybody else experienced that the PiServiceLauncher service seems to keep the GPU at 100% load even if the 8kX is switched off? Quite inconvenient, this means the headset has to be plugged out when not in use.
Yes, that’s like this with all Pimax Headsets. I got a Remote Control that switches off Power.
Button B is linked to 3 power boxes: Headset, Lighthouse station 1, Lighthouse station 2. So I can turn all of them on or off with a single press of a button. These things are cheap, starting at 15€
Interpreted that wrong, PiServiceLauncher is not taxing the GPU when the HMD is really off. Apparently in some cases the 8kX seems to be on and is still showing a red led though. When then clicking on the power button again it switches off (and the led stays red). And when clicking power a second time then it switches on again - this time showing a green/purple led.
