OK so I worked more on this project and tried two different other fans. I like the original 20mm snorkel fan but did find a 25mm version on Amazon that I made the 3d print file for.
It has the same 8mmx12mm end point but it does push a little bit more air and it is quiet like the 20mm version.
I also remade the DAS peg insert to stabilize the Fan snorkel for both the 20mm and the 25mm version.
I ran the 20mm version on a single cell 3.7v lipo (550mAh) for 20 hours before recharge.
I also found a USB C breakout for providing 5 volts from the headset. The extra voltage does provide more RPM. Just do not exceed 5 volts.
25mm 5 volt fans (two pack)
I was wondering why you have faced the fan inwards, so it blows air in instead of sucking the hot air out ?
convection dictates that it should work better by sucking instead of blowing since itâs on top
Because that is how they work with my Fatshark FPV goggles . I feel the nice cool air flowing in - you can flip the fan around if you like. I have tried it that way and it doesnât feel as nice to me.
thanks for the great idea, I also implemented it.
Extended with a switch (off/50%/100%), 5V from the top USB-C port.
Just tested and it works well, have no fogging of the glasses âŚ
I just created the cover for the fan.
SnorkelFan_25mm and Pimax_DAS_25mmSF_Peg is your original, the parts are glued together.
You can upload the cover (for fan 25x25x10) at Thingiverse, I donât have an account there.
I can send you the stl file by e-mail, you can send me your e-mail address by PM âŚ
Attention, with the USB-C plug you have to be careful that the pullup resistor is properly installed.
I ordered two and with both he was from A5 to VBUS, Correct would be A5 to GND.
On the picture of the order he was set correctly, but delivery was the wrong one.
Here he was soldered, this is wrong:
It should be like this:
If you are experimenting with the USB-C port be careful, very quickly you can damage the HMD!
I did not use the plug, I slaughtered an adapter cable from USB-C to USB (skin removed from the plug).
The USB-C connector is even shorter as there is little height.
the top USB-C port was not a good idea, I had noises on the internal USB sound card of the HMD, the fan emits interference.
I have now supplied it with power via an extra USB cable, now absolutely nothing can be heard from the fan - perfect!
Nice!! I use two 18650 cells with a BEC to get to 5 volts - replaced one of my counter weights in the back with it and it will run for many hours on one charge.
