8K X Occasionally Blacks out for a few seconds (Potentially Solved, EMI Ground Loop/ Interference likely the cause)

When you guys have black screen, do you have error 10936 ? My 8KX hasn’t been working for weeks now, and it started with random blackouts…

Check if it might be a loose/bad connection at the headset end of the cable.

I RMA’ed mine due to what seems to have been loose connection probably in the socket where the cable is seated.

It would cut out if I moved the cable slightly and got worse quickly to the point I stopped using the headset before sending it in.

I never saw any error code. It usually stayed connected for me. Only one time i had a full USB sound disconnect happen i remember.

You have something different from the sound of it, like DrWilken mentioned.

lol. After two months of trying different firmware with no success, they are offering me a 30$ coupon to buy a 100€ new cable that will probably not fix the problem. What did you do to send the whole headset back ?^^

My headset clearly had a bad connection so I showed them using a YouTube clip where I wiggled the cable slightly resulting in the headset powering on/off (my case was really bad so it was obvious that it was a connection issue + I had already tried with a new cable as mentioned with no difference).

Anyone had any success?

its seems like one variant of the blackouts comes from direct drive wheels (especially fanatec products) causing too much EMI for VR ( not only the pimax is affected) . seems like the simucube cause no problems/less problems.

read last comment in the youtube video.

also the new fanatec DD CSL wheel is causing issues .

This isn’t that type of blackout issue. These are “gray-outs” that i have had before as well.

I saw 7 black frames (right eye only) while playing MSFS 2020 last night (during a 30 minute session). I turned off Smart Smoothing and played for another 30 min. I saw no black frames during the second session, so if you are experiencing this issue, try disabling SS.

So your issue of blackout was because you have a crappy PC not able to handle high data transfer. I don’t have black out…well it was more of faded to black such as whenever you touch the HMD or when you leave it on the seat, it went to sleep and never woke up. Updating the firmware and Pitools resolve that issue. As far as fading to black whenever you touch with your hand, people suggest it was the DD1 or DD2 drive that causes that interference and I do drive w/ DD1. So I went and bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084JQ7ZK3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I did at least 5 or 6 loops around it at the place before the cable split (I do use the extended cable). The loop need to spread out when you loop through it. So far, I don’t have any interference. I touch the headset, nothing happened…everything clear. It seems to help with increasing frame rate as well (I play mostly racing games w/ the motion rig on DOF P3). Hope this last…because just the other days, I remember that every time I touch the HMD, it begins to fade into black…it is freaking annoying.

Yes you have an issue with EMI thats why the ferrite magnet helped you. And it wasnt your DD1 doing it most likely it is caused by your motion rig. (Same issue i had with gray-outs - and not the same issue i posted about here originally)

Hope the Yaw 2 doesn’t have this issue

Just found this video perfectly demonstrating the issue.
