@mixedrealityTV Happy to see you got one now I wanted to hand one over to you during CES but we then realized it would be better you get a completely new unit.
Note: this is NOT the final unit. Its the same revision as we had at CES. It is also not a review unit yet.
Review units will be sent out once MAS is finalized.
To be more clear, your 8KX is the same revision as the ones I have, @mirage335 and @vrgamerdude has. These comes with an NDA and are only for testing and limited hands-on impressions.
Some of you may wonder why this is the case, and the simple answer is our new policy that a non-final production unit should not be used as review unit. We did that mistake before and early revision has been considered as final, which lead to misleading reviews.
The MAS speakers will be changed in the final and first MAS batch. The sound driver as well. The plastic hinges on the HMDs will be replaced with metal to prevent breaks. Some cosmetic changes are also to be made and so on…
The approx 20 units were not sent out before CNY, and will be right after CNY. The reason is that a few crucial things needed to be fixed (like the metal hinges for example). The backer units will have the final HMD (including the fixes) but they will also initially not include the MAS (which will be sent afterwards).
Also the PiTool 8KX versions currently available are in-house revisions and cannot be used for reviews (they lack a few options).
Thank you for the update. It makes perfect sense to have a NDA on these testing sets. Also glad to hear about the hinges switching to metal and the updated drivers. Definitely sounds like the final version will be most excellent!
A couple more weeks to make the product even more durable is worth the wait, those first to receive the units should be happy they’re revising them first!
Sure indeed. I hope I didn’t kill the joy now though. Dont hate me for pointing these things out. We just dont want to see another review of a non-final sample. It was a big mistake to send these 75Hz 8K Plus units to ppl as “review units” which they were not, and making that mistake all over again would just be stupid.
Furthermore the current PiTool 253 and firmware do not have 120Hz mode selectable in upscale mode. Although the 120Hz is already tested and confirmed, its not yet ready for public until final units are sent out.
You didn’t kill the joy at all. We appreciate you being honest with us, and I’m pretty sure everyone here can handle waiting a little bit longer for these minor things to get ironed out. I’d much rather have the best headset you can release than a headset that still has flaws.
Do you remember the big 3h review I did on the 5k+ and 8K? That was a big mistake as well, and I realized that not long after, when many of the flaws were corrected in final units.
Your 5k/8k review remains my favourite YouTube review of all time. The level of detail and depth is unsurpassed. Hopefully you’ll be back reviewing on YouTube really soon.

Thanks guys. I will do reviews, but not until the things are final
On the other hand, many ppl (or maybe the majority?) are super scepic about everything I test or unveil nowadays in my videos, since I work with Pimax. Im the Pimax shill now… lol. Maybe the main reason why I can’t do all-in on YouTube anymore. The time spent is just not worth it.
Last months Ive been bombed with messages and emails. At least a dozen a day. Since ive been travelling more or less non-stop ever since August last year, its just tricky to keep up and need to be selective.
It’s quite natural for people not to trust reviews done by company employees. But you know that already. It’s just seen as part of marketing hype til validated by truly independents and news sites.
