8K plus Vert and FOV tests

Fellas, what’s everyone’s test with their 8K plus doing the Vert and Horizontal tests? I just tried this software that I found off a site and my Vert was at 118* and my Horizontal was 160*
I have the 8k+ set on large FOV as well. I’m also using a leather face cushion which is the same size as the new cushion you would get with the headset, I’m using .259 pitool. So what are your tests?
What should the Vert and Hori be for a 200 deg FOV , What is my test giving me for a FOV?
Thanks.

The most People have the same numbers like you.
Vertical should be 120 deg. and horizontall 170 Degree for 200 degree diagonal.
So Pimax reach almost the 200 Diagonal, but precious it is something like 185 - 190 Degree Diagonal. But the missing 5 Degree on each side does not border me at all
I love the pimax FOV and the advertised 200 Degree diagonal / 170 horizontally is just fine for me

So keep enjoying the Pimax 8K Plus like i do every day :+1:

We just had that, @risa2000 made a tool, and that’s pretty much what it shows what is rendered by the HMD

You can find the tools in this thread as also some values

Yeah, online results, also for the 8k+, can be found here: HMD Geometry Database | Collected geometry data from some commercially available VR headsets.

8k+ not yet, only 8k .

Hopefully @KuDawg can help you out and supply the 8k+ output, so it can be put into the online DB!

Should I sent you my results? @risa2000
I ran the tool and the extra one to generate the file but got distracted before going on. Or upload on github, what ever suits best.

This is a generous offer, I guess you would not make if you knew what it takes .

Technically, I would like to collect the data for all possible configurations, which are many with Pimax headset, basically any combination of the following conditions:

  • FOVs (Small, Normal, Large)
  • Parallel projection on and off
  • different refresh rates

Because we know, each of those factors may change the rendered FOV.
So you are looking at possibly 18 configurations to record. Now, if you know that, for example, the refresh rate does not change the reported FOV, you can skip that, but in order to know that, you might need to run the tool first…

Running the tool is not difficult (see this for the recommended procedure Contributing | HMD Geometry Database), but it takes time because each change requires restarting SteamVR, sometimes even the headset.

Considering all this, I would be happy for any subset you could provide.

OK I will try my best, 18 is manageable.:see_no_evil:

Ignore Diagonal FoV claims as something is off in those calculations used for advertising.

@risa2000’s hmdq utility is great for obtaining legit Vertical and Horizontal Requested render values.

Yes Large is 160 HFoV Normal 140 HFoV Small 120 HFoV.

I ran through the following:

@MReis thanks for all the files, I am good now .

I will run the “postprocessing” tomorrow (today) and add it to the database. It may take some time as so far I did not have to handle different refresh rates explicitly.

Thanks to @MReis I was able add Pimax 8k+ to the HMDGDB, and thanks to his thoroughness there are all possible configurations .

One thing to note: It seems Pimax has made an attempt on fixing the HAM for PP (as I suggested here https://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-5k-parallel-projection-ham-mod/22952). For some reason, they did not match the HAM from the native mode with the PP HAM exactly, but I guess it is still far better than before. I plan to check it on my new Pimax 5k+ with the latest firmware and PiTool as well.

Looking forward to your testing of your 5K+ RMA HMD and your conclusion I’m regards to the HAM for PP
