No linkbox needed as far as I know. @SweViver

I can confirm no linkbox needed, HMD detects the lighthouses through the sensors.

However there is no connection for firmware updates or standby though so you may still be able to use a linkbox to achieve that (or maybe a bluetooth adapter? I don’t know as not looked into it since I have a linkbox).

Congrats on getting it working. Was quite scary reading through this whole thread and it was your USB drivers in the end. I’d be crying at this point lol.

The linkbox talks to the the lighthouses.You may want to keep it plugged in so that it tells them to turn off automatically when steamvr closes.

Yea, that’s what I meant by ‘standby’ :slight_smile:

…although in the 2 1/2 years I’ve had them I’ve not used standby mode.

No they dont, actually that is the headset that get everything, if the lighthouse are on it just watch them to see where it is (thats why its a lighthouse) and the controllers probably talk directly to the headset also since Iam using them without link box.

This morning I noticed a sub-pattern in the SDE, and this one is annoying yes.
Not just like the pixels next to others, its chunk of pixels, forming squares, with horizontal lines.
Tried to take picture of it but couldnt, have to draw something.

Close view of pattern looks like :

Mostly on sky, clouds or snow.

O dp see diagon grid from time to rime usually really bright white. @Chucksta is whom you mean though as @spamenigma has the 5k+

Yeah, that’s why I find it annoying. It seems to be more obvious in some things than others. When it is obvious, it is annoying.

I’m not sure I am noticing it so much now. I could be getting used to it, or that I have just stayed clear of games and experiences that are not optimised for VR.

Just press the cam of your phone against the lens and see if it focuses sharp. If not, tilt/move it slightly. Fiddle with it a bit and you’ll see it getting sharp and you can shoot the pics.

Yeah I notice this more in bright white a mild mesh of dots. As mentioned with the upscaling seems to cause this. Alien Isolation though looks amazing. As chuck said in somethinhs more noticeable.

If they can get better subpixel rendering or upscaler more configured for the diagonal arrangement. I think because we are used to standard grid pattern in monitors & Screens in doors & windows we are apt to notice the effect a bit more until were more used to it.

@neal_white_iii created some grid representations of what appears to be upscaled “voids”.

The linkbox also has built in bluetooth which is what tells the lighthouses to turn off.

They actually turn off after a moment of non in use, which they didnt do when I was using the Vive and woke up when grabb them.

Just don’t drop it like @spamenigma, especially if it is an S8(+) or S9(+). Here is a picture of my S8+ that got cracked while it was in my pocket.

Edit: I knew that the S8+ had issues with cracking before I bought it, so I wasn’t that angry when it happened. I was more surprised, since I pulled out my phone from my pocket and the glass was cracked.

Hate glass backed phones mild crack on back of my lg g6. No reason a simple acrylic back as it will work with wireless charging.

Not too big of a fan either. The cracking is a nuisance since it compromises the waterproofing and the glass on the back makes the phone slippery to hold and more likely to drop (and crack).

My S8+:

It happened when it fell from my night stand, so like 40 cm above floor. Samsung really messed up with the S8, way too easy to break. Replaced it with the Note 9 btw, really love that phone. Anyway sorry @Ludiks not meant to make a ‘show your cracked s8/s9 here’ thread but this is some Samsung frustration here :wink:

Indeed you’d think these companies would have learned from Apple’s iphone! (But then again maybe they did - repairs equal more money)
