8k/5k compatibility with laptops

So I see you guys have listed the screens in the 5/8k as capable of 75hz - 90hz… Can brain warp still function properly with 60hz max input? My system and a lot of gaming laptops out there are what’s called muxless meaning we can’t shut off our igpus to use the dgpu (amd, nvidia) exclusively. This is because the ports on our machines are always routed through the igpu as it is the frame buffer. Igpu frame buffers can only do 60hz at the higher resolutions. So my other question is whether or not I NEED to upgrade before the 5/8k. I recognize there are those who will say I should, but my case is not necessarily rare. A lot of people with my video card the (980m) do overclock theirs to and beyond desktop 980 levels.

According to a post on the kickstarter, " The hardware requirement we recommend is GPU-GTX980/1070, CPU-i5, Memory - 8GB." I would say it would be hard with your current setup. Considering that the 980M is about 20-40% weaker than the standard 980, I would highly recommend you upgrade. Is it possible to connect your laptop to a graphics amplifier? If so you could possibly do that route, assuming you meet the other requirements.

Not my 980m, I run a very stable overclock with a unregulated 330w PSU. Anyway I may have to consider that. I will say I think those requirements are due to the higher refresh rates. If that’s the case then with any muxless computer the requirement would be lower. Due to being locked to 60hz.

I have added some pokes to your op message. I personally can’t see why it wouldn’t be possible. As with the scaler it maybe able to bump the refresh internally? But may also need some specific support worked into the firmware.

Just a guess have to wait & see what our good friends say.:+1::sparkles:

We have noticed relevant cases, and is now in the optimization of laptop use effect, the solution is still ongoing, may need to wait until after the National Day of China will be a solution.
