5k+ Serial 203/204 Beta Firmware.. how big is FOV in 144Hz mode?

I have tested Assetto Corsa Competzione in my 5k+ 204 in 144hz with SM and normal FOV+FFR on. Absolutely fantastic ! IVery smooth experience without ghosting or frame lost in game. Only in main menu some stuttering during head movement like in 120 hz. Anyway love it. Solid “fake” 144fps , 14~15ms during race with 16 players…
My spec i7 8700k @4.7 + Strix rtx 2080ti OC

AMD Navi GPU users are always capped at 90fps no matter what refresh rate they select. Even 65hz still results in 90fps. Additionally motion smoothing is also broken for us.

We only get very minimum functionality. Changing refresh rates only changes our FOV and resolution.

This is not correct. I only purchased my 5k+ after Pimax advertised 120hz as a feature and when I purchased they also advertised AMD and Nvidia GPU’s above GTX 1070 were supported. They have now changed their page to no longer mention AMD but it did say they were supported when I purchased my 5k+.

People need to keep in mind Pimax are not a kickstarter now, they are a commercial product. Customers like me now are buying these not based on knowledge of promises made during a kickstarter. We buy these based on the claims and advertising at the time we buy these.

I think I noticed this. Even though I’m still capped at 90fps in 144hz mode due to being a 5700XT user after I tried 144hz mode my vision was worse than normal. I hope this is not also an issue in 90hz mode in the new FW.

I hope so. The same was said a while back but I hope this time it is true. Everytime there is a new download I wonder if this time will be the soon I keep hearing about. Fingers crossed the next one is the one… ahh I don’t want to prepare myself for more disappointment.

Ok then it´s a different story. Hope you sorted out soon.

Horrible distortion in every direction. Anyone else have this issue. Doesn’t matter what application or if PP is on or off. Also its as if there is too much binocular overlap.
I’m just in steamVR home

on the contrary - almost perfect picture in my 204 model, definitly less distotrion than with older firmware

I’ve noticed distortion when I have tried to use smart smoothing and I have noticed various catalyst settings introduce various types of distortion.

do you update the pitool version to the 258?

120hz is too dark so I have uninstalled this

120hz was indeed dark with the beta firmware/pitool but was fixed soon after.

Is it still dark for you ? I play most of the time with 120hz and its pretty much (as far as I can tell) the same as 90hz.

I too play with 120hz mostly , This latest is just a bit darker not as bad as the last time , I don’t understand why they removed the option to increase the backlight a few pi-tools ago.

i just updated the firmware. My pitool is 1.0.1.255

i didnt know there was a pitool beta to go with it. The first post only had links to dfu files and a DfuUpgrade.zip file

https://community.openmr.ai/t/5k-serial-203-204-beta-firmware/26430

please update pitool to 258 because 255 not compatible with 144HZ

@Heliosurge please update post to include link to 258 pitool because I cannot find it easily. Huge oversight :upside_down_face:

If needed I will test Alpha firmwares to correct this issue for you.

That’s nice to hear actually

258 was released prior to 5k+ serial 203/204 beta firmware.

Pitool\Release Notes only has Pitool Releases.

After playing around with 144Hz “normal FOV” mode, i must say im very impressed! First i had to adjust Pitool “IPD Offset” from -1 to -7. Because of double vision offset, changing from 90Hz to 144Hz. @Alex.liu
The FOV is surprisingly good, i thought it will be tiny, but no it´s very good!
I felt in fast paced games like Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa, my eyes and brain was much less claimed. It felt way easier to follow the track.
My eyes and brain was much more relaxed, which resulted in driving round after round easily compared to 90Hz mode.
I think this mode will also help people with motion sickness very much.
The only downside of 144Hz mode is the smaler FOV compared to 90Hz “large FOV” but it´s still very good and i think a good trade overall.
Thank you and nice job!
