Im still not sure about the 5k or 8k the 5k isn’t uprated so native and the 8k is 1440 uprated so how much is the 5k easier on gpu. 300 lines i make it
But most important would be how many pixel per sq inch is 5k compared to vive pro for comparison i understand the 8k has less screen door but i think this is an important question for anyone thinking about swapping there pleadge.
the 8k is apparently rendering at 6k or 8k depending on settings and downsampling to 5k , sending across cable and then upscaling. for all practical purposes the unit is running at the same gpu draw as an 8kx.
It’s been said before that reviews and comparisons will have to wait at least until the backer meetups.
I don’t know for sure but I do believe it’s all about the 8K first. 5K is only for later.
i dont want a review. i only want to know from people that tested the 5k and 8k in the beginning of the year if the sde and resolution, between 5k and 8k are so diferent. Dont need to be answered now, but i need to know before i choose 5k or 8k.
@deletedpimaxrep1 is there any information as to per inch side by side comparison to pixel density for the 5k against rift and vive pro , i know we have pixal count but nothing comparing the density over a set size which will give us an idea on the SDE to expect ,Honestly this will sway my decision
That seems a very strange way of doing it,sounds like it would choke on prossesing? f the 5k is native why wouldnt they just upscale that signal ,maybe something to do with 8kx that this isnot
Reading some stuff i now think its all to do with SS ,if you SS an 8K image and down scale to up scale ,is going to look much better than a SS 5K image as the 5K image has not got the sampling range that the 8K image has so would not benafite from the extra pixals on the 8K screen.
But still dont know PPI of the screens

@D3Pixel and then i got distracted ,yes you did dont argue ,lol
how did you find that out 500 ppi ? do you know what the vive pro has, i know 5k sounds like a big jump but as the screen will be bigger its hard to judge the real ppi of the screens
ok found this (2,880 x 1,600 (615 PPI) this is for the vive pro and (2,160 x 1,200 (448 PPI) this is for vive and only judging this as a like for like magnifacation as this is other info i dont know .
So 5k 500pp i 8K 800ppi gonna have to think about that
Essentially the 5k doesn’t need to super sample as much to produce a quality picture.
Where as the 8k needs more base super sampling to have a good looking upscaled image.
The 8k runs like a rollercoaster.
Vr ss 6k downsampled to 5k process complete nice image (5k headset)
8k may need to render at 6.5k to 8k then downsample to 5k (nicer looking 5k image) upscaled to 8k (image quality on par or bit better than 5k native panel).
Think of a reg 2d game on a 1080p monitor using DSR/VSR or in game SS renders higher for better looking 1080p image without need of Antialiasing.
