Now that iāve made up my mind. Itās on to somewhere in 2019, because i have pledged for the full package and donāt own a Vive. So without base stations and controllers, the only thing left is to wait. Any more of you in the same situation?

Yeah, I think Iāve pretty much decided on the 5k+ as wellā¦ Iām pretty much in the same situation. I gave away my Pimax BE about 6 months ago because I couldnāt handle the tiny FOV.
Still, its possible to use Big screen, Virtual desktop for movies and ahem other types of moviesā¦ There are also racing sims and flight sims that can be played without controllers.
Edit: I still reserve the right to flip flop on my choice of hmd at the very last second

Yeah, i know. But i have read here that for the setup in Stramproy you need base stations.
Nah you donāt need base stations to set up for seated play. Sweviver mentioned in his ama that setup stage got fixed.

Same campā¦ but there are a couple of games Iām looking forward to playing without the controllersā¦ Elite, Subnautica, etcā¦ I also own the NOLOā¦ I donāt really like it but I might pull it out again and give it a second try. But I also own the Samsung Odyssey so Iāll probably need both until all the rest of the Pimax components arrive. Was thinking about buying a used VIVE for the controllers but now knowing that my GTX-1080 isnāt going to be really sufficient, I think Iāll pass on that used VIVE and purchase a new GPU.

Depends on your backer number, of course, but you will get the the headset first, then the base stations. By xunshuās account, they are shipping in October. Controllers are likely abouta year away, but you should have headsets and base stations before year end at least.
I am on the first batch for release, but without steamvr stuff, so i might actually delay on my choice till the next batch so I have a little more time for facts to come out, and hopefully I can get headset and base stations togetherā¦

No you can play sested games with a standard controller. Head will track rotation & up down.

Hellblade:Senuaās Sacrifice. Is a very nice seated experience using an xbox controller or I think keyboard. Should be awesome on the 5k+/8k even without the light towers or controllers.

Sweviver played it and said it was pretty much unplayable on either headset with the current GPUs.

Yes, but i bet that was on normal FOV and without downsampling more. So im sure if you set to small and downsample it could be fixed.

Hellblade as Jim said would not likely be playable without decreasing the FoV ti small.
My zotac mini 1080 ti plays smooth at medium settings on the 4k.
Itās a beastly game.
huh, Iāll have to check. I donāt remember adjusting the settings on it and the default in steamvr for me is 200%.

Yeah, well I just checked and Iāll have to admit to it running like a lame dog (not one of them speedy types). With async reprojection disabled even at default (about 2138x2378 per eye) there were missed frames some places.
My system is comparable to yours: Titan XĀ§, i6700k(stock, worst oc chip ever), 32g ram 2666mhz, win 10, steamvr 200%.
Iām not sure how much I need to lower the ss to get in perfect.but if the pi render 1.25 is a simple pixel multiplier then iāve been trying to run it at twice the pixel count of you.
