So you had a 5k+ of the earlier batches?
Well, i wouldn’t say so. The first batches were send in Nov’18 ? I’ve got mine some days ago. If i had to bet, i would say anyone has the same chance to get one with black dots, independent when.
The big question is only, if, when and how is pimax replacing them. My ticket got very fast answered, that i have to provide pictures of the problem, and i did so - but after that: silence. Might be they already start to pack their stuff for the vaccation
But don’t worry too much about the dots. The Headset is still very good and definitley usable even with them. At least while you know it will be replaced for sure
they now say that this doesnt get replaced, you can read it here https://community.openmr.ai/t/about-the-pimax-5k-black-dots/13809
More and more i am gonne dislike pimax,
i dont recomend pimax anymore to my friends and customers!
At the moment, i wasn’t aware they changed their mind, which is honestly such a bummer.
That’s why I made this thread…
I was hoping that with enough support, maybe pimax would change their mind…
But now that they have officially came out to give those affected backers the finger, I guess it’s pointless…
EDIT: I just saw the post where Sean Huang said that Pimax WILL NOT replace your 5K+ plagued with the black dot PATTERN issue, but will replace the 5K+ plagued with “BLACK DEAD PIXELS”…
Hey Kevin, any comments as to why backers with the black dot pattern throughout the entire panel cannot get their HMD replaced, thanks!
I told it was a misunderstanding and a mix up between dead pixels & black dots.
I don‘t understand the hassle pimax. every user could just squeeze his pimax lightly to cause a crack that you do consider replacement worthy. so why would you not replace the dot headsets?
it feels like the playstation fan-gate where you have loud delta electronic fan or a quieter nidec fan
Pimax is really hopeless. After the week of speculation about the original post from @Matthew.Xu they come up with an explanation “this a feature, not a bug”, while at the same time there are people reporting that they have headsets without the black dots and even the new headset in Woods video (replaced directly by Pimax) seems to show none, both facts conveniently not addressed in @Sean.Huang statement.
RMA replacement headsets have no dots. new delivered headsets to backers might have or not have dots. its so strange that it is completely random on new headsets. thats why I figured they are recycling returned units into new ones hence some have dots (older displays from early backer units with bad housings) and some have none (new displays).
I dont know and pimax is doing all they can to avoid that simple answer for weeks now.
Consider the worth of the headset if you want to sell it.
What should we write then on ebay? It’s a ‘feature’ that those dot’s are there? Just don’t tell it and get a bad reputation of hiding it knowingly?
No one will buy the 5k+ from ebay as soon as it get widley known that there is a version without those black dots - therefore the 5k+ Headsets (with dots) instantly lost a HUGE amount of their worth.
You could claim it’s a limited edition and it will only gain in value over time because of rarety and being the among the first produced. Just kidding of course.
but he likes black dots, look at his head
what backer number are you and what batch were you in?
I like the pun, but are you aware that the picture you used for “Pimax 5k+ without dots” is actually Vive Pro?
Oh, thanks for noticing me, I missed that.
Maybe @spamenigma is so nice and makes a picture of a red background on the screen of his non-black dots 5k+ so I can exchange it in case they differ.
