I believe they are quite likely targeting a new Xbox as well, so I would not expect the complexity of the original FSX. Plus if they target a VR this will most likely be something like Index or Rift. Nevertheless I am eager to see it. If they get the simulation right (=make it benefit the multi-core arch of the console CPU) it might as well be the best simulator out there (or the most promising ).
Which aspects do you expect them to be missing out on in the beginning ? The air flow physics and how it affects the plane seem to be quite advanced, and one shouldn’t forget that they have the benefit of being able to design all of it with a wealth of computational resources available as virtually all users have multi-core CPUs in their systems, as opposed to a model designed many years ago and then expanded upon in patches. Of course the latter has the great advantage of having been able to fine-tune it over a decade which then obviously should mean it’s more refined than a freshly released product, but still it may be held back substantially by early design choices having seen a need to simplify matters.
From everything I’ve read and seen from the new MSFS, it seems like it will be significantly better than FSX when it comes to the flight handling of the aircraft. The general consensus seems to be that FSX, and its reliance on pre defined tables for the flight model of aircraft, is pretty basic compared to, say, X-Plane.
MSFS2020 seems to be addressing these concerns with the modelling of flight surfaces and windflow over the aircraft - even things like the aircraft undercarriage are supposed to be modelled ‘correctly’. In addition, handling doesn’t appear to be a problem that has been raised according to the feedback snapshots so far from the people on the Alpha Test.
I would say that in this area, MSFS2020 is likely to be a significant improvement over FSX, even at release, but this is a VR forum and we don’t know if/when this will have VR.

Sorry I was sick and obviously brain not working when I wrote that. I meant to be comparing it to XP not FSX.
I think the physics will take years to catch up to XP and P3D. They will have graphics and frame rate on their side, but physics is more important to me. I hope they can match it on physics soon but feel it will take a long time.
The XP11 aerodynamic and physics engine is indeed something unique. Thats maybe the biggest reason I still prefer XPlane11 over the others, even if P3D and especially Aerofly without a doubt looks more realistic in VR. I. Sure FS2020 will have good enough physics, but probably not even close to XP11 on launch day.
It’s “when”. Microsoft has committed to supporting VR in MSFS 2020, but it’s not promised for initial release.
I got an Alpha invited for FSX2020 will check it out tthe next few days - flat of course. I guess all that registered back to the link posted a while ago will get an invitation . BUT it’s under NDA.
Do you have VorpX? FS2020 might be compatible, so that you could play in VR.
Yes and I will check it tonight
No worry. My friend told me the flight model of MSFS is already at least on par with X-plane, which is better FSX.
Had a very short try. Unfortunately VORPx has a problem updating since my virus suit keeps yelling at me that the update file contains a Trojan… Need to check it and will come back once figured out. The rest looks very promising - but I have my “no VR no buy” policy so I hope they get that in sooner then later
Edit: Anti Virus Package
Ha brings a very different image to mind!
I hope we can expect things like VRSS and the next eye tracking to improve fps.
