@danidomen
With large fov no Supersampling is taken over, if parallel projections is activated to avoid double vision (for example in elite).
I dont have fallout so I don’t know how the pip boy screen looks but for comparison here’s what I see in ROV Test FOV & Resolution (steam home enviroment) on my old i5 3579 with a gtx 970 with pitool setting 1.0 and normal fov. Steam VR video set to automatic and the application specific multiplier is set to 100.
On the opticians chart I read line 10 easily at 2 meters distance and line 11 gets a bit blurred but still kinda readable. The texts to the right of that I’m reading text size 16 comfortably and 14 gets a bit difficult. also at the two meter distance.
fps is fixed at 80 and the gpu frame time is between 6 & 7 ms and the cpu frame time is 2 to 3 ms.
I think that the answer is very easy.
For Pimax 8K each eye receive a 1440p. The upscaler only scale the image. There isn’t a bilineal interpolation and nothing more. Only a scale of the size of the pixel. Then if you increase a lot the Super Sampling, only have “more defined” squared pixels.
On the Vive Pro is different. The signal exceed the panel resolution. Then you don’t see “pixel”. You can use the subpixels pattern in diagonal to achieve a “virtual” resolution upper Pimax 8K.
In 5K+ the signal is the same that the panel. That the reason that 5K+ has a incredible big “virtual” resolution. You can increase a lo the SS to achieve that.
That’s a great tool. I’ve not used it before. My rating was 3.6%, so it looks like I’m in good shape.
Are you using Large FOV mode in PiTools? There seems to be some sort of bug or upper limit on screen size. This might only happen for games that need Parallel Projection enabled.
If so, try using Normal FOV.
I was 4790k 4.8ghz. in vr for 1080ti it was a big bottleneck. i7 8700k was a great upgrade
Try normal FOV and manually set the Steam supersampling. Maybe bug if left on auto? SteamVR beta or not?
Do you have the link? Can’t find it
LOL - It’s in the picture that Heliosurge posted above… https://community.openmr.ai/t/why-on-my-pimax-8k-can-i-see-the-pixels-on-the-screen-and-readability-is-near-lower-than-on-my-vive-pro/13467/14?u=neal_white_iii
Thanks! Is your 2080 worth it? I currently have an ASUS Strix 1080 & 6700k. Thinking about the 2080 with the 5k+ but gonna wait until I have it in hand.
I’m fairly happy with it. I would have preferred the 2080 Ti, but it wasn’t readily available, when I urgently needed a replacement.
The 2080 is approximately equivalent to a 1080 Ti, unless you’re playing a game that can make use of the extra features. If I were you, I’d use your existing card for a while, to see how much additional performance you think you need. Given AMD’s recent GPU announcements, nVidia’s prices will likely drop in the next few months.
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. I had a 2080ti on preorder for a while but after seeing it didn’t help too much I’ve been waiting.
Oh man that’s almost my same rig. I don’t want to have to upgrade as well.
If @danidomen hasn’t adjusted super sampling in steamvr by switching to manual, I’d withhold judgment for now.
I got 3.77 cause apparently 16gb ram isn’t enough
This rig:
i7 8700k
EVGA 2080Ti XC Gaming
16GB 2666mhz
500GB 970 Evo
250GB 850 Evo
1TB WD Black
4TB WD Green
Sweet rig. But can it run crysis?
I can run minesweeper and mspaint at least. A solid 60fps on those at 720p.
I didn’t mean any performance problem. I mean that im near sure that my 8k visor really not have 4k screens per eye. When I say that I see “pixels” I don’t mean that the image is pixelated. I mean that I’m capable of see the grid of the screen, the points of the screen (like the lines and dots when you get your face in front of your monitor or TV). This is suppose to be removed when the panel have high resolution/dpp, yes?
The same happens with a black or grey screen (not image or game being played) when the HMD is on, like on the others when you can safely see the screen resolution (more points on the screen, less resolution of the panel)
How can make sure that The hardware is correct? Any video how yo disassemble the visor? or at least to remove the face cushion completely to can insert the camera all as I can to have good photo of what I’m saying?
The firmware, at least Pitool says, is the latest.
Also, if we go to that is a performance problem (that I say, isn’t my claim) I can say sure that on the buggy and very unfinished game Star Citizen I can play at 4K with all on MAX, and have a ~60fps. And we are speaking of the more inefficient game engine, CryEngine (now using the branch of Amazon, but more or less is the CryEngine).
Yes. This is what suppose of the 8K panel or the reason to pick this visor. So I think that really my panels are not 4K per eye. I see the dots or the “pixels” of the screen also when is only on, without image or game playing…
You need to take through the lens images to show, or otherwise no one will understand what you are talking about.
