Given the nature of VR, it’s probably best to focus on hope for the future that we just get closer to better VR, rather than dwell on past promises of some kickstarter in the distant past after even things like SteamVR have changed much since then.
The 8kx has equal clarity in both eyes for me. I also don’t really notice much distortion until the edges. I think having automatic IPD setting along with compensation for vision would fix most of the issues. I wish you’d stop describing your clarity and distortion problems as if they are universal. Clearly( pardon the pun) they are not.
Hopefully improvements to the concerns of users with current headsets. Hopefully two steps forward, no steps back with new hardware, like every other company hasn’t been doing! Keep PCVR alive!
Hope there is some kind of eye relief, this is something that isn’t really talked about.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by “eye relief”? What is causing your eye discomfort? Inability to position lenses for your IPD? Too bright? Too hot?
I think zuiquan1 is talking about an eye relief adjustment - the ability to move the lens assembly closer to or further away from your face/eyes.
Thank you for your support~
VR 3.0 Hmmmm !!!
Ask yourself what is VR !!!
If you put a smartphone in front of your eyes you see nothing
VR Lenses create the distance to allow you are inside VR World
First try was Platform 2.0 with BIG 200 diagonal FOV
To avoid distorsions and to have optimized resolution (1:1 resolution/ss)
You need to build a VR Headset rethinked from zero: a new platform
At this point perhaps they had a brilliant idea to improve immersion
VR 3.0 (for me ) is staying inside the game
and VR Headset alone with controllers is not enough.
If the project is innovative to make an announcement now
is a big mistake because they are telling their ideas to
other companies
bothering Pimax 8K X sales
This is a press release we made yesterday - it’s being picked up today by a lot of outlets:
Releasing more today…
my personal favorite VR hmd would be :
Pimax FOV , Varjo screen quality , Index audio (or better)
and wireless
What about the support of the “old” eye tracking solution that has been sold until today ?
Will it be able to achieve anything near that what is able this new "Tobii “eye tracking” solution ?
Both will still be sold but they are different technology. Tobii is behind the lens and 7i is outside the lens. So future headsets will have the tech integrated in the hardware.
We will continue to lobby 7i for improvements and release them quickly after we receive them.
Thanks for the answer, I was asking since I haven’t yet unpacked the 7i component because of all the reported bad things related to this product in the forum and the non improvement since the release of the product.
Please someone tells me I am wrong.
I wish you’d stop asking ppl to do what you wish them to do.
Pimax distorstions are universal problem every second/third user has distorations to a degree a person can use hmd. Though its not my case im able to tilt and place hmd in the most distortion free position, the problem with it is that the small move will cause distortions to some degree, if you used to play few title and often look straight ahead or your brain got used to this geometry imperfections and it doesnt bother you, it doesnt mean there are no distortions. You better to get in room full of rectangles on 170 Fov and move your head from side to side and look for straight lines, apart of bending there are stretching and some othet geometric issues. This is the worst pimax downside everybody mentions for year and its why hmd didnt get more popular than its. Denying the problem is your chose. Often if i ask ppl to get feedback from hmd for some problems irl they didnt notice it at all until you describe it in details and ask to check again, many ppl even didnt notice bad mura, chromatic aberrations in other hmds etc. If you dont see it, it doesnt mean its not there. And on Pimax hmd its Big Problem despite whatever you say.
This hmd has no equal clarity either, even for ppl with small ipd and extreme mod, if you would be more focused and tried different tests you would see clarity spots are shifted against each other, yes on some ipds its way less distracting, but they are still shifted so brain has to constantly mix pictures from different sources when you change gaze and its also very often mentioned on this and other resources. I wonder did you try hmd with perfect geometry and clatity at the same time in both eyes, thats pity that Pimax doesnt work on the most problemtatic places which bother ppl a lot. i dont have those problems too bad, but i often notice it and that disgustes your expirience, also 10 hours in pimax cognitively much more harder to pass through a brain than on other hmds like quest2, index, and its definetly possible on wide fov hmds, star breeze proved it years ago.
I read somewhere about a standalone 8kx- which makes no sense to me because it would be way too bulky.
But the idea of a standalone with
-newer (smaller) panels,
-better (non-fresnel) lenses,
-industry leading FOV (140deg/Pimax “small” is good enough for me),
-min of 2160p vertical panel resolution,
-Tobii eye-tracking,
-inside-out tracking, maybe realised in using the handtracking hardware
-optional hand/face/body tracking
-optional steam-vr compatibility via usbc-tether/lighthouse faceplate
-around 3h runtime
sounds good to me.
On the other side there are too many new hardware things involved in above whishlist and we know pimax so far is known for releasing beta-hardware to mature over time in the market…
I’d like to see an HMD with better displays (better blacks), improved lenses with larger sweet spot or full clarity, and built in eye tracking. It would also be nice to hear that a wireless adaptor is coming for existing headsets too. The icing on the cake would be news that you have been able to get the finger tracking working on the Sword controllers after all.
Seems like someone actually fixed some of the reported issues with the 7i ET software:
https://community.openmr.ai/t/eye-tracking-software-fix/37292
(Please discuss those fixes over there)
You guys are very welcome! it was easier than it should have been to fix most of the problems to be honest
I don’t want you to stop posting your experiences- I have no way of knowing what you see in the HMD. And, of course, you have a right to express your opinion. All I ask is that you not claim that you speak for all of us.
But you suggest that these issues are universal and that the only reason I don’t see them is because I’m either stupid or incapable. That’s insulting.
And your experience does not invalidate mine. Ergo, it’s not universal.
please dont say what i didnt said in the way like it was said by me, i think its universal isuue, you dont, deal. No need to try push your opnion, as it wont change my mind about this issue.
