Washed out colour

I’ve got the 5k+ and an og Vive. I know that the LCD won’t be as vivid as the Vive but the images seem more washed out than any LCD I’ve ever had. I love the fov and the resolution but the colour is getting a bit worrying as I am concerned that I got a dud. On the random chance someone here has a OnePlus 6 and a 5k, could you snap some pics through the lens to compare. For example of the default steamvr home.
Thanks

Probably normal and dépens of the application and image type… yes Colors a more wash out. Try to set the brightness setting to low in dark scenes.

Also uncoated lens will reduce contrast to some extent vs normal lcd. Keep in mind that the outside illumination will get in the headset by the cushion vents so play in a low light environment and try to get your eyes acclimated to low ligh level (15mins+)

Will never be as good as oled

I know it will never be good as oled, and I play in the dark (who needs lights when I have one strapped to my face). I was just looking for some comparison to see if it was what it should be or worse. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 5k+ and it will be replacing my Vive for sure. Just want to know I am getting the best possible experience

Oh I don’t get you wrong no need to justify anything, no headset rules them all this year so… a part for some sophisticated software tweak that I will wait for. I’ve simply decided to embrace applications that are performing the most well with the 5K+ for me it’s simulators ; Planes, cars, google earth, sport games etc. I and feel like you toward colors and black level on the 5K+

I don’t have a headset yet so I can’t test, but why not use the nVidia display properties to increase the colour saturation for the HMD? Is that not possible? Or the screens colour saturation simply cannot be increased regardless? If not, then no software will ever provide a solution to washed out colours.

1- LCD has it’s limits
2- The NVIDIA panel is not suppose to be available for VR headsets and some setting are simple ignored. Still waiting for a complete solution here from nVidia or Pimax ( colors panel has been suggested and somewhat acknowledge by Pimax)

I’m actually quite happy with the 5k+ colors, but saw the LCD “black” in game just now, yeah, it’s gray. Still acceptable. Barely.

Yeah I feel like the colour is as vibrant as the rift but I don’t have the rift anymore to do direct comparisons .

Well, ALMOST as vibrant at least, with a bluish tint. I was positively surprised about the 5k+ colors, was expecting a lot worse.

Yes I think vive owners notice the the difference more than rift owners.

Oh, yeah, vive/rift. I have the Vive OG and I’m comparing to it.
Edit. Dunno what I would think if I were to test the Vive now, after the 5k+. Somehow reluctant to do so.

Ok well that’s interesting because most vive owners seem to think there is a big difference so I guess it’s all about individual persecution .

Or maybe there is actually a problem with some of the headsets in regards to brightness .

Do you still see occasional white flashes in the middle of your viewing area ? I still do so I am thinking of putting a ticket in when things settle down .

Yes I noticed if I very gently twist or push the headset in certain points I get some lightbleed or weirdness in colours, in the same way if you press an LCD screen with your finger.
Maybe there are some differences in colours/black levels between the units if it seems to be so sensitive thing.

But yeah, as I said, the colours in the 5k+ are good to me, OFC not level with OLED, but not bad either.

No white flashes here, in fact no problems at all. Just a few flickering stars on a dark background, but thats very minimal.
Edit. or was the sparks what you meant by the white flashes :exploding_head:

I see fairly large white flashes . Definitely not just single pixels

Are going to put in a support ticket for a new cable?
