recently aquired my 5k+ , everything worked flawless out of the box no snowy image, about 10mins into use a light snow sparkle emerged, first white sparkles(very seldom) to now more colorful sparkles more frequently. What are some things i can try to mitigate it before rma’ing the cable? Thanks in advance!
Try a different DisplayPort on your graphics card.
If the cable connection to the headset and the PC is solid, then yeah that sounds like it might be a faulty cable.

Sometimes you can reseat the cable in the headset, has worked for some.
Yeah it looks like i’m going to have to attempt some more things, after swapping displayports the image was perfectly clear then some snow reappeared shortly into gameplay. The fact it can produce a perfectly clear image at first makes me think there could be something causing interference
I know there was a post on here somewhere from an arcade owner talking about how cables will eventually fail and need to be replaced, that’s why I suggested it might just be a faulty cable. I’ll try find it.
Edit: Couldn’t find the specific post, but I’m seeing a lot of “My display would start getting snowy after x minutes, but everything was fine once I got a replacement cable” posts, so I’m thinking I guessed correctly that it’s a faulty cable.

Did you buy it new? If so then I would really be furious with Pimax once again, this “snowy cable” issue plagued the Kickstarter 5K+ and 8K units and that was over a year ago. Pimax was always aware of it and the fix should have been implemented by now.

I would open a ticket and get a new cable shipped to you. I remember when both my 8K and 5K started with the snow, it would come and go almost as if it didnt have anything to do with the cable, but after I replaced the cable the issue vanished, although I did have another 5K+ that I installed a new cable and the snow returned but that might have been because I just didnt have it seated firmly…Good luck!!
Yes perhaps a design flaw that was only corrected for a replacement cable but not the production units as it may have been hit and miss. I feared mine would be snowy too, atleast its still playable for the time being. Ticket created, appreciate all the insight.
Keep an eye on it while you wait for a replacement, others have found it crashes after a while of being snowy.
thanks fingers crossed mine wont experience similar behavior, ill put it through some significant tests tonight but so far other than snow my experience has been a flawless one, zero distortions other than in the right corner on alyx(probably due to settings) and the hmd is very clear with pitool 1.0 steamss 100%, previous hmds were rift cv1, rift-s, vive cosmos elite, valve index and now the 5k+. I’m very impressed, i just need to learn the sweet pimax science of getting everything right
