Not sure if anyone saw this update?
When is Somnium connect?
The exact date hasnāt been set yet. But it is slated for December.
Wow thatās late. I thought it was going to be the end of this month at the latest.
The 12k will be shown at CES in January and depending on the price difference the VR-1 could be defunct before itās released.
Its funny and sad at the same time that so many headsets come out in quick succession because no one is going to sell enough units to recoup their investment.
20 mins I wonāt get back.
Yeah Somniums professionalism is on the rocks as is the future of the VR-1.
Yeah I get a feeling the VR1 is in for a delay, they just dont want to accept it yet themselves
Terrible idea to shoot a company video whilst driving a car, especially when hands keep moving away from steering wheel whilst car is rolling, and driver distracted speaking to camera
Hahaha yeah I totally agree, but I understand him, he has no time to do this, heās extremely busy and is just trying to get the most out of his time. But yeah, better not to
New VR1 update:
So we still get YTers impressions soon while the launch is pushed back to January. I think we get a hint of the price tonight. Hope itās below 2k.
Epic dissapoinent in terms of āprice hintā lol. More or less as expected (no info)
Hmmm I wonder if Varjos announcement of the XR-4 at 4k had anything to do with it. No Aero2 means less competition and more breathing space for first batch of VR-1s.
Itās Just a matter of timing and sailing the market. We wil see, in the coming years what the future will bring. I only hope that the pimax 12k release date is coming soon.
CES 2024 just over a month away.
I know the wait is killing me. we waiting for years and still no 12k
I just finished watching the MRTV podcast. The VR-1 stuff is at the end.
When it comes to price of the VR-1 Seb seems to think people will pay extra just because itās made in the EU but in reality I donāt think this will be the case.
The VR-1 is a Crystal but with wider FOV and options on eye tracking while Crystal has eye tracking as standard.
If I were Somnium I would stick to one model that has eye tracking as standard. Thereās little point having a high resolution without it when Crystal has it built in.
Price needs to be within Ā£300 of Crystal to justify the FOV. So I reckon the VR-1 should be no more than Ā£1800. Any more and itās DOA.
I think itās a bit early for such conclusion. Letās see what the youtubers think. I have hope that the vr1 optical stack is highly superior to the crystal one. But weāll need to find out. If not, then Iād agree
I donāt think dual Asphericās can be better that a single piece of glass, but itās going to be mighty interesting to see how much of a downgrade there is to get to 120FoV. There must be some otherwise why not go 130 or 140FOV?
It does make me laugh when I think about the 12k and how this is the 3rd year in a row weāve been told to expect a showing. Third time lucky? Only a few weeks to go.
Iām going to call it. VR-1 - DOA.
After watching Tyriel Woods video my expectations have hit rock bottom.
Not only were they shown prototypes that still had hardware flaws but the optics themselves had flaws.
Then there the price. Tyriel seems to think the start HMD will be around 1.8k and up to 3k for the fully specced version.
He also said it wasnāt comfortable and front heavy.
What is there to get me to upgrade from Pico4?
Somnium have fallen into the Pimax trap where they offer a lot but then struggle to deliver the tech at a reasonable price point.
The FOV is barely above an OG Vive from 2016 and theyāre using a Vive DAS in 2024.
As much as I wanted Somnium to come out guns blazzing the VR-1 feels like it got lost in the woods.
Pimax Crystal looks a much better value for flight simmers. The VR-1 is not a FPS HMD due to being front heavy. The VR-1 is literally in no manās land where itās cheaper to get the Crystal or go all out with the XR-4 for mixed reality.
I think Somnium will abandon this headset pretty quickly and get down to a Hypervision based headset.
Itās a shame as the VR-1 has promise. But now itās too late to market, cost too much for what it is and overshadowed by existing HMDs with proven technology.
