Agreed, just the lack of god rays actually increases clarity…
Thickness & lens weight has been sighted as the primary reasons.
Okay. Better idea. Keep Lens profile and lens shape, and add onto size and only have to design new distortion parameters for the new appended area.
Some people I could understand not care about the remaining areas. I’m fascinated by the sensations that are more felt than consciously acknowledged. That’s why I’m all for ohysically based audio, higher refresh rates, and def infinite blacks.
I’m always looking forward. And I don’t want to seem like I’m displeased with my 5k+. I haven’t touched my vive once since I got it. Not ever again.
I think that ffr in unison with the last 25 degrees per eye would be an exceptional experience. As eye tracking is coming. I kind of remain skeptical that, hypocritically true full fov is done right, that people would not feel that a layer between them and the game world had not been removed.
The tradeoff is worth it. How much would you say it’s adding in weight, you’d say?
Difficult to say. But if we were to buy a plastic fresnel lens at a given diameter & then an aspherical plastic lens that matches diameter & magnificatiin we would have a good baseline.
I do know the Xtal & past HeroVR headsets require pitbull neck muscles. Lol. But not likely just lenses making it heavy. As it has a custom eyetracking solution…
At a rough guess likely 1.75 to 2x weight of fresnel lenses.
I think it would be interesting to have a Qled vr display as it’s likely the closest next best thing to Oled without the oled burn in/out issue.
Micro led made into a nano size even better.
Two reasons. Size and the prize.
You wouldnt imagine how thick and complex the XTAL non-Fresnel custom lenses are, to provide an image which is more narrow in both horizontal and vertical FOV compared to Pimax. I was blown away when I saw the thickness, and I cant imagine how difficult and expensive they were to develop and manufacture. There’s a good reason for the price tag. As of today, we can all forget about non-Fresnel lenses for wide FOV.
Hey dude, where’ve ya been? Staying healthy I hope right?
The weight of the HMD sould not make much difference after a few hours, after all a motor cycle crash helmet is twice the weight and with wind resistance it get even heavier.
Well I know I didn’t move my head as much on a motorcycle when riding as I do in VR. Plus a motor cycle helmet is more evenly distributed.
Why else do you think Xtal has a counterweight option? Or other users adding counter weights. Lol
Weight on the front if ones face is not the same as wearing a helmet.
if you are not moving your head left and right, how the F`n hell have you survived this long on a bike. Ho wait, you have long straight roads were you are, unfortunately were I live no such luck, and if I dont look left right Ill be dead in less that a week.
You dont ride fast then old timer
I was just going to say this
Motorcycle helmets are not something I would call comfortable and I’ve tried some amazing helmets.
Roof Boxer V8 is pretty nice. A little problem with fogging tho.
A bit off topic.
Mirrors & mainly 2 lane roads. Shoulder checks are more for lane changes & when stopping ensuring a vechicle will stop when you have.
Now 4 lane highways good to keep swiveling. A good coat with a Breast pocket for your Tim’s Coffee & a cruise control switch are a must.
My old bike was a 1977 Kawasaki Cruise bike with a windsheild. Miss riding but Nova Scotia’s Roads are often quite rough. Ontario had busier roads but better maintained. Even was once crazy enough to ride with frost covered roads.
Now though? If was rich would grabba Can Am.
160km that’s 60 to 80 over (highways). Never drive like an @$$ in the city.
If you wanna be rich, you should be heading to the Indian river.
Well I used mainly open faced helmets only way to drink coffee. Closed face helmets suck for that.
There’s a reason why god created straws mate… Wait, why are we talking about motorcycles?
“Drinking coffee”… got me thinking; what if… Pimax starts developing an inexpensive rubberband with Vive compatible sensors akin to Vive Tracker around it that can be strapped onto glasses, mugs, cans, bottles, what have you and develop an injector plug in so that we can always see our drinks in game? That would revolutionize VR Gaming! Oh and it ought to be made to be compatible with Qi Wireless Charging…
