I’ve seen a lot of questions here (and on the kickstarter) about the controllers (will we get knuckles or wands, etc…).
Which really begs the question, should Pimax even be making controllers? I kinda want Pimax to focus their energy/resources on the stuff we can’t get elsewhere. And besides, the reviews of the original wands were not exactly flattering…
So to recap, we already have access to top quality controllers (and light houses). What we DON’T have access to is high res 200 degree fov headsets, eye tracking solutions, etc…
I think it has to do with a complete package, we have yet to see the controller it’s supposed to be in Knuckles variation. But maybe they just want an easy complete package people can buy. And one that’s aesthetically matching the headset.
Well if you have a Vive then sure it makes sense to not want the Pimax controllers, but I’m sure a lot of backers will want a full VR solution and it would suck for them to have to buy individual base stations and controllers from 3rd parties.
Funny you put it like that, I would actually consider Pimax the “3rd party” in this case.
I mean I get that not everyone has Vive wands/lighthouses, but you can always buy them along with your Pimax headset. I assure you the quality will be superior (on par at worst).
I get that too, the first party stuff is a bit pricey.
I just worry that Pimax is biting off more than they can chew. They already have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to deliver the headset itself.
I think we all have to accept that this is a kickstarter for a very new product with pretty far out specs and there are risks involved. I understand your concerns but I doubt the kickstarter would be as big if they weren’t offering a complete solution, it’s just another risk we have to accept to invest in this.
They already have a track record of delivering a decent headset. Yes it had a few problems but PiMax was diligent to address them. Read the kickstarter page for a reason to do the kickstarter. It was not to raise money to begin the project. it was to raise awareness. I’d say they succeeded. The controllers are already designed for the vive, PiMax are simply adapting the tech for their headset.
Yea I’m not saying they won’t deliver, but this is still an unproven product and there’s risk involved. We’re backing Pimax on the faith that they’ll deliver what they say they will but there’s always some chance it wont meet expectations.
There is always some chance that your package from amazon will not arrive and will be lost, will not work as expected, will not look like described, will not work at all, will not meet your expectations and so on. This applies for everything in the live.
Guess what are the risks when you go date someone? It’s even worse than a kickstarter purchase
You make a really good point. Unfortunately the Vive controllers and light houses are an absolute rip to buy separately if you dont already have a vive. Pimax should do just fine with their version of the light houses because its valve tech. The controlers though would most likely be rubbish. Best combo would be pimax 2.0 light houses and valve knuckel controlers
