And the controls of this HMD seem pretty weak.
I hope the Pimax 8K has better and stronger packaging.

The cool thing about Pimax is of course that you can use proven Vive technology, I think that was really an awesome move.
For now. But MS has lined up an impressive list of tech companies to build Mixed Reality HDM’s and I’m willing to bet in no time those same companies will create a variety of accessories that will exceed those of the VIVE.
According to this guys impressions the resolution jump is no big deal. Read down the comments he compares project cars with the vive
Do you think it even runs 1600p native? I though most steam games were locked at 1440
Yep ss it for convienance. And it says both vive & oddessy have trouble maintaining 90hz all the time. But Oddessy does better on performance.
Do you think Pimax could eventually enable higher resolutions on the standard 8k? 1600p @60hz
Maybe but possibly not need ti know more about the bridge chip.
i tested the odyssey yesterday, here’s a very brief summary of my impression:
slightly sharper image, and slighter bigger field of view than oculus, but i had to consciously think about it to notice it. nothing major.
the screen door effect is slightly less prominent as on the rift, and rather than the fabric-like diagonal pattern of the rift, it’s a bunch of tiny dots. but you’re not going to be overwhelmed by the upgrade in visual quality.
the hmd and controllers are a lot lighter than the rift and vive. but the controllers feel cheap compared to touch. i only tried one game (space pirate trainer) but i don’t think the haptics are as good. touch haptics are fantastic. my rift and touch are pretty scuffed up, am worried that the odyssey wont be as durable…
there are little flaps above where your nose goes so there’s no light bleed. i thought a piece of fabric had broken off of the face cushions at first, i wasn’t used to it. but it’s a good idea, wish the rift had it.
i had no problems with tracking; reaching over my shoulder to grab my shield and change my weapon worked seamlessly. i moved my controllers and head all around and didn’t notice any freezing or glitching, ghosting, etc.
i didn’t check for godrays, but they don’t bother me much. i personally prefer them over the concentric rings of the vive.
i like the loading animation!
overrall, it’s not an upgrade from vive or rift… now, if you pair the headset with touch controllers, then yeah it would be the best thing out there right now, but at the very least it’s fierce competition for all current gen 1 hmd’s. you could really go with any of the big 3 and be happy, imo.
I tried yesterday the HP Mixed reality headset and the brightness of the screens where deficient, the resolution was better that my Vive. 95D FOV is insufficient. But the concept is very valid, with companies like Samsung next year V2 model could be interesting. if the price of the LCDs can get down those kind of headset can be build for les money than a Vive or Pimax. Laser triangulation is very hot in term of performance but increase the price of the headset, controller and any other add one.
For many peoples the ease of use of those headsets will be very appealing…
Similar flaps around the nose are on my PSVR and they are most annoying thing on this headset with otherwise good ergonomics. They are constantly poking to the nose and I am not the only one who dislikes them as I heard more people to complain about that.
Yes, I think that future of mainstream VR is inside out tracking with its low cost, simple setup and still reasonable performance. Other solutions will be far less prevalent.
So with the reviews in so far there is absolutly no reason to upgrade to this headset
Great! I save myself $900 NZD
no. i would only encourage people without headsets to consider it as an option
Project cars through the lens. @Sjef aparently he has SS on 2.0
