[Reviewed]Kat Walk Mini and Pimax 8K

The dish on the mini and the standard Katwalk for that matter are both too small for a comfortable gate. I have a virtuix and it’s acceptable but even it should be a bit larger.

With the Kat Mini you can crouch… which is important in some shooter type games. I don’t think you can crouch in the Virtuix Omni.

I’m really disappointed that the pricing for the Kat Mini came in so high… oh well. I guess I’ll just wait further down the road.

Yes, indeed, I just noticed that Virtuix Omni does not have the ability to squat, bend down. And this is in fact necessary in some games.
Thanks for the tip-off, I exclude Virtuix Omni from my wish list.

I’m not trying to push the Virtuix it deffinatly has many issues but fyi once you get comfortable walking on it you can stop using the diaper and then you are able to crouch/jump. You could never take the harness off on the Katwalk and unless you have a really short gait the Katwalk will be very awkward.

Very good to know… thank you!!!

So all the same there is an opportunity … But it’s all imperfect. What would crouch and jump should stop walking? Or is it possible to walk even without a diaper?

I find the price too high, especially when their bigger model was going for much less.
I would have bought for sure 1 if the price was affordable / same as the kickstarter campaign they had years ago.
It sucks to see such price.
Also, there is a lack in the treadmill technology to move sideways to avoid shots…but imagine at this point the price of a treadmill that would allow that too…
Also, how about the vice trackers for the feel and legs? Does this treadmill allows it?

Yes, they are not Vive trackers, but equivalents; here, myself showing the sensors (blue LEDs) two on my shoes…

… and one on my back.

I guess it will be something very similar what they use for the mini.

Thanks!
How do u feel for the fact that with a treadmill we miss the lateral movement for avoiding bullets or else?

Do u think this device is worthless for the proce of 1500 dollars?

I will not buy it even for $1,500.

It gives a lot of freedom to the arms, but keeps you rigid, caught by the waist. You can only walk, run, turn, jump, bend a little, straife, duck and sit down; you can not lean on the floor, for example. In addition, in the normal version, when you walk you would hung inclined and it’s unnatural.

But maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it.

Do you think the price is really 1499$ or later they add shipping ?

At this sum in Italy i add customs. On the total you add iva (21%) and then 15 euro

This is the cost of Kat Walk Mini.

In the end, they can reach $ 3,000 and you have to add shipping and taxes.

The price is surely bigger than 1499$
I think Now
Shipping cost is ?
Customs is ?
What !!!
ahaha
but i like kat vr mini and if 1499$ is with shipping it’s much different
So what do you think ?
On Kickstarter usually they add shipping price but here we are speaking of 85kg.
The cost could be 300$ , 700$ or more
It’s absurd they say nothing

Am I right in thinking the katwalk mini has uncoupled head movement from the direction you are moving, so you can walk/run while looking sideways?

I think so, although I didn’t do much.

Do you have any thoughts on what would u like to see as solution for locomotion in vr ?

I am interested in these ideas of locomotion. I do not really like to use the vive controllers pads to move around .
I was looking into the walk in place solution also. What other options could be in your opinion cool to have?

To me, it seems like the simplest, most cost-effective solution would be some sort of small tracking devices attached to your feet. Then just walk or run in place. Games would translate your foot movements into walking or running in the game.

If you’re into games like Dance Dance Revolution, you wouldn’t even need a mat.

It’s sad, but I think that KatWalk Mini is the best right now; and still, inadequate.
