[Replied]O no my pimax 5kplus cracked!

Now its out there. Everybody can see it happens without mishandling the headset. So they have to change the housing or they will face these claims forever.

i know it looks like something hit it but seriously no. I think more and more gonna find their casing cracking.
I’ve had my vive since launch and I know how to ā€˜not hit’ the headset. There cracks are just out of the blue really.

Ok yeah. Theres a lot of tension in those corners.

This is to me a design oversight. The plastic is thin and fragile, but I was not expecting it to crack without force.

I am #686, I am wondering to what extent the problem would extend to. #1000? #2000? #3000?or is it the whole of the KS casing are of this quality? We have no answer from pimax yet. And what a nightmare this is going to be for pimax to replace those hmds if they do, if not then we got a pimax that’s going to fall apart with usage.

There is tension, maybe more or less if it is warm or cold. You grab the thing on the edges to place/move it on your face - it cracks.

The housing is translucent all over not just where the sensors are. I guess that is where things have gone wrong in plastic quality.

Its a shame - I would have paid double for a high quality headset without compromises.

Yeah its probably from adjusting while its on your head, but being a headset where fitnent is so crucial you need to be able to touch it without fear of it coming apart while re-adjusting the seating position.

Pimax must know this is a problem or why would they make the BE with stronger case. All cases should be the same.

The BE models were made in mind that they would be handled rougher than the consumer version. They would travel more and be used by more people. Some would even land in VR arcades. For that reason, the BE should and do have sturdier housings… but they also cost more.

Huge backlash for pimax just trying to safe a few yuans. Well they will learn… again…

clearly the housing of the consumer version needs improvement like the BE standard.

That’s kinda of a catch-22 for Pimax… if they do that, then there’s no reason for anyone to buy the BE version unless they also add more improvements to the BE. But I do agree with you… they have to improve the Consumer version.

yes that would be a problem for pimax, but i think this is a bigger problem for us at the moment. We need better housing and for retail this would be a disaster

They should redesign all of it… its the plastic, the design, the manufacturing process… what an oversight!

First thin I’m going to do is re-enforce these joints / areas when i get mine
are the sensors visible under a strong torch light ?

I hope you’re joking! I would be fearful of trying to re-enforce the joints in-case it didn’t work. You don’t want to do anything that breaks the warranty.

If thermal stess would be involved we would see cracks at the hot spots shown in my video.

I think we do if you consider tension into it… no tension no crack no matter the thermal stress. Or the plastic expands at one spot and induces tension on another spot.

Not talking about epoxy resin lol
More strips of sticky back velcro like material , something that can strengthen and protect but can be relatively easily removed
just thin strips in the right places .
Worked for my vive controllers

I would like a 3D printed cage made of flexible filament for a temporary solution. Anyone into CAD here?

the choice of material seems clear, its invisible in IR so you have no worries about holes in the case for the sensors and how to protect the sensors (cover them), besides it give a nice clean look
