Poll: Boe panel or alternative Q1 2019 full-rgb strip OLED non-diamond pixel grid 4k screen for the 8K+ and 8KX

Not a screen protector, it’s a diffusing layer on the panels.
So it has to come from the manufacturer, and I don’t see Samsung selling a 4k panel with their anti SDE tech to anyone before using it for their own next HMD, Odyssey 2.

Don’t wait for tech that doesn’t exist. Take what is available and sell it as soon new tech justifies it.
Even if there would be a full RGB 4K panel available it is not certain the power would be enough on a single cable 8k+.
Overall size and refresh rate also need to match as well as brightness…

If you ask me …we are not going to see 4K RGB OLED screens on HMD any time soon …not even next year…it could be on the 3gen HMD (2021/2022 or beyond)

My exceptions for next gen HMD (next year) are like 2K RGB OLED screens (lucky if we see microdisplay) 130/150 FOV !!!

Do you have any source for this in regard to the StarVR One, Xtal and Fove? Because in my search I could not find any mention of any of those HMDs having a proximity sensor, or any sign of it in their respective pictures.

Valve news network has again claimed two credible sources confirm the Valve HMD will have 150 FOV and higher resolution than Vive pro. Great if that’s true. The question is when?

Thats really exiting news …waiting for it

The resolution could be 2K i mean around Pimax 5K+ res
And no way they will go 2X 4K (they can but they will not) !!!

I was just doing some research into the status of the new BOE panels and they’re still on schedule for early 2019 mass production! They finished the roof on their new production plant, where their new gen AR/VR panels will be manufactured a month ago already: https://www.oled-a.org/boe-caps-roof-on-micro-oled-fab_110518.html

Also that update still talks about early 2019 and since they’re moving this rapidly forward, it makes sense.

BTW, I found this info on their page, relating to some of those “Micro displays” they’re planning to make in their new fab: https://www.boe.com/en/product/xsqj/xnxs/vr-ar/

Also remember they presented this prototype 1.5 years ago, so hopefully they’ll soon be mass producing these little babies too: BOE Flexible OLED, 27" 8K, Bezel-less, foldable phone, AMQLED, 4K and more - YouTube

Now we just needs next gen video cards and foveated rendering to hurry up

I’m guessing that the price difference using popular screen manufacturers screens is a big jump from the rando’s i. 5k+ and 8k. If they are gonna go all out like that they might as well give it the star vr one treatment and do full fov.

5.7" UHD. So effectively this is what the 8K X needs. Hopefully that’s one of the screens they were testing

@anon74848233 Are samples of these panels available from BOE?
