Opened this topic just to reinforce the multiple requests for info about two critical issues with the Pimax 5/8k.
Knuckes are about to ship and there’s total silence from Pimax about if and when they will fix compatibility. This issue is critical as noone will buy the Pimax if they can’t use index controllers with them. Shipping is soon and everyone who has a Pimax will be unable to use them. Community will be pissed big time.
Still no word about the deluxe headstrap. A premium device shipping with a cheap headstrap is frankly unacceptable and it has been months already since the headset shipped. I know about the DAS mod (owned one since day one) but this is beside the point. In such an expensive item, a comfortable headstrap should have been the default. That was clearly not Pimax intention but we have at least the right to know when we will be able to get it, as it was promised, btw. If Pimax really plan to produce them in Q4 (really self-hurting decision in my opinion) they should at least communicate that clearly and give us at least some info, such as an updated prototype, pictures, renders, ecc…
I hope, if Pimax can’t understand how critical these issues are, someone like @anon74848233, @PimaxUSA or @SweViver can persuade them of their importance.
I hope at the least to read good news about index controllers compatibility with updated versions of steamVR very soon.
Because they never delivered on time in the first place, whenever they declared any date at all.
Still, total silence is kinda crappy. They should keep some forum presence, even if it is minimum. Just a “we are working on it, ready when it is done” would have consoled some people. Most of the staff that posts here perform double duty and frequently travel, which also messes up the communication.
To be clear: if I can’t use my knuckles when I’ll get them, I’ll sell my 5k+ and buy an Index. To me, controllers ergonomy is more important than any FOV and I won’t keep vive wands 1 more day!
Sadly, if when Knuckles arrive (in about a week or so), there isn’t 100% (not 90%, 100%) support for them, I’m jumping off this crazy train and going full bore Index.
I’ll donate my Pimax headset to a museum for retro-futurism.
It’s clear from results that silence is the new policy. Announcements will be made through interlocutors, the only emails sent will be sales emails, and since “all backers have received headsets” there’s no need to enter the fray of the forums again, except to occasionally respond to SUPEN attention posts and post job openings.
I miss the days of lens iteration photos and daily shots of headsets to ship, calculating manufacturing rates and shipping times. Now it’s just the inmates in the asylum shouting at each other as interest and hope continues to wane.
Well let’s be honest. Pimax should be using KS updates or emails (will reach pre orders) to ensure there reaching supporters on important updates. But unfortunately only emails of late are vague monkey surveys.
2 prospective buyers & 1 sounds like for sure is lost other discovered cancellation fees; but might have been sedated with coupon offer.
I don’t disagree with you. Especially during the KS where they said yes to just about any question.
Knuckles in truth as per your Article & others was compatible & working well. Valve changed the structures resulting in breaking compatibility. Now are they working on it? Sure just like making it compatible with Amd Gpus; all things take time. In this case was working & now broken. Amd Gpu still a big WiP.
Instead of making a direct statement on it. They sit in silence. Kevin starts the basis for folks concerns that due to LH sourcing there exploring other options. A good PR person would have avoided that pitfall.
Instead of doing damage controll on his “thought experiment” he attacks users claiming they are twisting his words. Even when directly quoted.
Unfortunately even I am losing faith due to failures to follow their Code of Conduct that was developed by pimax & community leaders.
Am I going to jump ship? No. But am not as confident in things as I once was. Something has been off lately. And it would seem we need an approved list of Questions & topics.
I think Pimax should get a full official license agreement with Valve and Oculus. I see thats the only way Pimax can succeed (or COULD). Both Valve and Ocu can make their life difficult any second if they want so. Day after day, update after update. I raised this question back then and now it’s reality.
If we’re being honest, I thought one of the uses of the USB expansions was a potential WMR-implementation. It’d be a good thing to check out after finishing their current projects.
