Well if you are going to look into Pimax Play, then can I say:
Pimax play recenter is wrong!
Pimax Play recenter; changes my room setup! It changes the orientation of my room. This is dangerous!
My room setup is not a square. I set it up in SteamVR. I have a rectangle ~3x2m play area, with furniture cut out of the bigger area ~5x2, where the chaperon shows up.
SteamVR recenter, It changes the center of the game in my play area. SteamVR does not change my room location or orientation.
When I resenter with your software, it should NOT change the VR representation of my physical room. As at this time 1.36.01.01 it changes my room orientation. e.g. My room is 3x2m, in VR it is 3x2m. After Piplay recenters my room is (obviously) still 3x2, but in VR is 2x3m.
The only way I can find to fix this is to reboot my PC. When my room and VR matches orientation again.
Once it is paid in full no server checks required.
Then, I tell you a story…
There was AnyDVD and AnyStream, and CloneBD from Slysoft, they sent out a registry file after payment.
This would be acceptable for Pimax, too.
Why? Slysoft “passed away”, and the software is useless now, only CloneBD can be used, but without AnyDVD you need a replacement (Chinese software is good).
So, we know, the trade war between US and CN will rise to something severe.
When I buy hardware, may it be from US or CN, I will not accept activation for the hardware.
For shops, it is different. If you check on Steam, you can see their T&C with those export control clauses, which are telling you, you can be switched off for rather no reason but arbitrariness, or despotism. Of course same with China.
So, it will be dangerous to go online, when the war heats up. Thus I want to have offline mode to be able to use my hardware and software. Yet, this is possible for Steam.
If you have a snapshot of your system, you can restore to a running offline mode.
not possible for hardware activation requirement.
I need to setup a system anew? re-activation reqiured!
I say no.
And by the way, I will skip Win11 because of all those US restrictions and limits even on UEFI level.
Need to check Linux now, I am fed up with this. Rather will relinquish…
Pretty much any hardware bought today that has driver/fiware updates can be disabled.
Samsung demonstrated this with the exploding note phones. They had to push an update out to force ppl to return this unsafe phone with the exploding potential battery.
The serials stored in the server check are not paid in full devices.
Even out Kickstarter headsets could be deactivated in theory.
Since majority of computer hardware sold uses proprietary closed source software without open-source alternative. There is always a risk a company could do something unscrupulous and lock the end user out.
So you could decide to keep the bought & paid for hardware offline. You would be free to go online with a separate PC if it makes you comfortable to download updates for all your hardware. Test on a PC where you can restore an image of it’s previous state after t sting an update for nefarious code. Before applying it to your main PC.
I just updated the client, great news.@PIMAX continues to listen to customers, I very much appreciate this update.
of course, this is a fall back solution, for me it is sufficient to make propper backups.
Thanks for reminding me, the beta update I did not participate, But today the update has been offered to me.
You’re quite welcome!
Well aside from some ongoing issues. Pimax is pretty decent in a lot of areas.
However I do appreciate how jarring things can be once ppl realize the potential gravity if things they didn’t realize were possible and there already in place.
Had a similar debate on Reddit. When I pointed out that MS can disable one’s PC at anytime either by accident (demonstrated a few times with bad updates) or deliberately.
The fellow said “no they can’t, You can install Linux”
Which sure you can but you’re still locked out of your PC until you can install it. And if you of course encrypted your user account for extra security. Well you still potentially lose the content on your PC. And if you don’t have la Linux distro on a stick. Another added inconvenience
Once we moved our PCs online with update & fix later. We became much more exposed. I know of one member here(will not identify) is very security aware/conscious and had experienced a really bad hack and has been having a helluva time trying to get it all fixed up.
Needless say last we spoke they are not a happy camper and have lost a great deal of their content as a result. Can really happen to anyone.
