So the project was real and the first impressions at the CES are mostly positive
I hope that they fulfill the new timeline and sent the devices at the end of the month

Now this link OKs like worth keeping an eye on for sure.
Wonder if @Djonko is at CES? He would be a good one to compare this to AVP.
The risk profile is high here due to patent infringement - I would not want to have dished out big money only to see customs confiscate it when being shipped to my address. And while it may have good panels and mimic the AVP to some degree, the Snapdragon is not an M1/2 and the bandwidth for wireless transfer will be a bottleneck for PCVR gaming here too. Let alone how good the support is and if and at which shipping costs & delay you‘d get an RMA if the unit has issues.
I admit some of these points also apply to other products acquired from China, but in the case of Pimax at least they have a track record of deliveries and sticking around, or if you look at MeganeX, they are from Japan, which is not ignorant on patent rights and they are affiliated with the Panasonic group. Different risk profiles for me.
PfD is not a new player in VR and have a good partnership support, but of course this is the first time they release a headset outside the China inner market.
In the discord we talked about this UI problem, and they said that if it’ll became a problem, they’ll change it.
And also they want to use AndroidXR in the future, so I think there will be no problem of patent infringement with that
It’s a pitty that they didn’t add a direct DP connection for PCVR, but I have high hopes in the Wifi 7 MLO to give a good streaming quality
The UI issue may or may not be a problem. Linux desktops often mimic other OSea. Main thing would be to alter it a bit to have it’s own color schemes and dress up the GUI to be a bit more unique. CES should be a good test bed to see how reacts to it.
@Axacuatl the AVP also suffers with limited bandwidth for pc streaming… it is disappointing though they didn’t include a usb-c do option.
How well support functions outside of China could be an issue but would need to see how it goes. I would say they plan on expanding outside of China with being at CES.
I think Apple would tell us that they simply don’t care about PC streaming. Not a miss if you never aimed for it.
It’s just us PC VR nerds who would have liked to piggy back on Apple‘s R&D prowess.
They did care enough to get ALVR support pretty quickly implemented. But yes not there main use for their headset and we could say the same is likely true if Play For Dream as there is no native DP or advertised WiGiG solution.
Two more video impressions added.
Seems the headset is the good surprise of the CES
