PiSetup_1.2.93_x64_Beta

@PIMAX-Support I

Installed this version. My Pimax 4K does not get detected properly and does not work in steamvr. When it does display something, it is almost like a broken video mode showing the pimax logo and not Kodi player. Although this is a beta driver, I am getting tired of having to strugle to get my Pimax 4k to work. At this point I regret having spent considerable amounts of time and money on the HMD even the PiSetup_1.2.91 driver does not detect Pimax mode properly.
If ever I bought something that was full of promise but not deliver, it is this device :frowning: Extremely frustrated and disappointed :rage:. I spend at least 25% of the time I would like to play, trying to get this thing to work properly, so it steals not only my joy, but my time as well.

Maybe it’s not in the piMAX?
When you start piplay, you need to switch to the mode settings and then choose pimax mode.
On all versions of 1.2.85+, you should run this after the first installation

Hi bro, I updated Piplay version 1.1.92 to 1.2.91 and now this new one (1.12.93) and I can say it is really good if you know how to get it work right. Try this: always start first Piplay (keep the headset off) until it is loaded and say Wheres my Pimax, then turn on the headset and wait. When you do not see nothing in you headset and seens to be stuck, turn it off and kill all the service and start it again.

Hopes it helps.

Hi, i have read twice about this driver. Coul you tell me can i find it ?
Best regards.

thanks, i will try it with a new install session…

Hey CReDo, It is most definitely driver related and not the hardware. I have been switching modes to get it to work as per your post from 1.2.85+ also, but for some reason I just cannot get this build to function. I reverted back to 1.2.91 for now and had to re-install SteamVR as well as do a full registry cleanup to get it to run again.

@grzvs, Thanks for sharing, I will attempt the upgrade again if I am able to this evening and see if I can get it to work.

@PIMAX-Support. Could you have your software engineers have a look at your software to include routines that remove old registry entries of previous Piplay versions during an install? Last night when I manually cleaned up the registry I found entries referring back to 5 or so versions of Piplay and Kodi.

Hi Grey, thanks for your feedback.

Is your helmet working well now in Piplay1.2.91? or Piplay1.2.93_beta?

Yes, I will report this registry issue to our software engineers.

@PIMAX-Support. Thanks a stack LittlePi. Currently my HMD is working on PiPlay 1.2.91. If I can, I will try .93 again this evening, but could not get it to work within SteamVR. The PiMax logo would come up as it is supposed to in PiMax mode after switching modes and SteamVR would indicate that the HMD is working, but would not display on the headset at all. It is as if the two software components weren’t connecting to each other properly even after multiple reboots of my computer…

You’re welcome. What’s the estimated time you will test Piplay 1.2.93 again? Maybe I can request one of our engineers to assist you through Teamviewer software then

@PIMAX-Support. This is a difficult one, I am based in South Africa so time zone differences could be a challenge. I will definitely be in a position to do the install and test again by Thursday evening. If I cannot get it to work, I’ll give you a shout so that we can try and set something up.

@PIMAX-Support

Hi, I managed to get it to work by doing a total uninstall and registry cleanup before installing 1.2.93  . Once that was done I also rebooted but found the mode detection still to be a problem. I managed to get it going after killing all the Pimax related services and restarting them all but that is not a stable solution.

Feedback:
The performance and image quality is quite a leap forward and definitely on the right track. Unfortunately the yaw tracking drift is really bad in this release. I calibrated the gyro a number of times as 1.2.93 unfortunately has quite bad tracking drift, but could not get the tracking to remain stable. On my system 1.2.91 has minimal if any drift at all, so I reverted back to 1.2.91 for now as I have to keep centering at least once or twice during a lap in Assetto Corsa.

Suggestions:
Could you please chat to the engineers about the following for the next public driver release and beta versions?

Mode detection: Can it be done to force the device into direct mode or extended mode permanently via a setting to bypass the mode detection?

IPD Adjustment: Can it display the vertical bars in different colors so that a user can know exactly when they have the correct IPD settings by the whole cross becoming green? E.g. The rear image can be in yellow and the front image in green and the whole image will be green when IPD is set correctly?

Gyro Calibration: Have the calibration shown in the HMD just like IPD adjustment. Make it like a wizard with specific prompts on how to move your head and when to move it, to achieve optimal calibration? The instructions are not entirely clear at the moment and as a result users may not be doing the calibration correctly.

Hi Grey.

Checkout @Enopho & @iDaver there is a specific way to calibrate magnometer & report minimal to no drift after calibration.

We have suggested changing ipd cross to different color ie blue for left yellow for right. Since your eyes converge image you would see green where yellow & blue converged. Hopefully the team can implement in next release.

Hey Helio,

Thanks a stack. I would think the “rotating” is where the problem came in. I will give it another go and see how it behaves

Your welcome & good luck

Grey,

You might want to upgrade to the new NVidia version 385.12 - I know that when I upgraded to 384.85 it was a huge improvement in my video card recognition and working ( I have a GTX 1060 6Gb) and now they have the new one (currently in beta) Nvidia asked me to try it for the Pimax 4k- located here:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/385.12/385.12-desktop-win10-64bit-international.exe

Please let me know how it goes - so I can get back to Nvidia.

Hi Starraker,

Thanks for the link. I will try and give it a go this evening and let you know how it goes.

For calibrating, you must tilt towards ceiling, then tilt down towards floor, then rotate left while facing forward, then rotate right while facing forward, DO NOT move it up, down, left, right, this is what i assumed you were supposed to do and that did not work it made drift worse. It’s the way they worded it, poor english. Basicaly look up, look down, look left, look right with the menu inside the headset would be easier to understand.

Once done correctly there is no need to recenter in assetto corsa it stays dead center even if i move my head about like a mad man. You may need to perform calibration before every vr session.

Good luck.

Dave

Well I’m glad to report that this works like a charm. If you lived close by, I would have taken you out for a pint :beers: or two. Thanks Dave

Hey Starraker. The detection of the hmd is definitely better with this driver. Thanks a stack mate
