Since the bridge chip you have in the standard 8k can support dual 4k at 50hz, are you guys considering 1800p or 3456x1944 as an input resolution?
1440p upscaled to 4k wont look bad, but something like 1800p or 4k @90% resolution scale would give better results. Your current bridge chip should have the bandwidth to drive 3456x1944. @PimaxVR@deletedpimaxrep1@PIMAX-Support
I keep asking this question in the kickstarter questions, but so far it’s been ignored. @deletedpimaxrep1, @PimaxVR, @PimaxSWD, can you at least comment if you are looking into this or not?
i still do not understand what is the input resolution, they said the 8k is 25601440 per eye, upscale to 38402160 per eye.
does this mean the 5k is a 19201080 upscaled to 25601440 per eye. or both 8k and 5k have the same input just the 8k has more pixels but upscaled?
They said in the 8k it’s possible to have 4k native on both displays just that 1080ti would not be up to the task, they said to maybe wait for next gen cards or 1080ti sli
Sorry for the later response due to limit support guys.
Yes, we’re internally trying the possibility of 8K standard version support the input resolution higher than 4K. but need some time to get the conclusion.
you should really be precise when you talk about resolutions. You mean you trying the possibilty of the “8K” standarf version supporting higher input resolution than 1440p ? that would be awesome. mabye than i dont need the X Version^^
Well they said they will have the final standard 8K prototype with 1x dp1.4 at the end of September. Hopefully with that extra bandwith they will be able to figure out how to do the 4k 50hz @VRGIMP27
The problem isn’t the DP 1.4 port. Both the Pimax 8K (non X) and Pimax 8k X have the displayport 1.4 ports on them. The problem is that the chip that communicates between the driver board and the display, (called the bridge chip) does not support the actual DP 1.4 standard, but only supports stereo 3D 4k @ 50hz. IE they have a DP 1.4 port on both headsets, but cant yet support the DP 1.4 standard’s specification because of bandwidth limits of one of their chips.
If their headsets actually supported the DP 1.4 standard the HMD could handle 7680x4320 @ 60hz
They need to create the 8K x version because their bridge chip can’t handle the actual DP 1,4 standard. The 8k X will have two ports (and probably two bridge Chips) and that will support native resolution, but it will require a 1080 ti or higher.
Sure the X will be incredible after 8 months development, Especially for bigscreen desktop apps. But I also think they will be able to fine tune the standard 8K over the the next few months to a pretty good level. That laptop their using cant be pushing it anywhere near what it could do. It definitely wont be super sampling or have the game settings on ultra
