Pimax First Impressions

Today I received my Pimax, and after reading some posts, I was really frightened.

But when I connected to my PC (I’ve alredy have the software installed),I put it in Pimax Mode (with the OC Tool), reboot, and then all works like charm.

SteamVR works out of the box, and the software recognize the Pimax without a failure (after unistalling the Oculus Runetime XD), the only bug I suffer, is that when changing the IPD, sometimes the software get crazy and the process stop working, but after a reboot it works again :wink:

I also have the Razer HDK2, and the 4k resolution of the Pimax is really notorious, maybe the LCD is not as bright as the HDK2, but now I can even read the number of the speedometer in the car, so my experience with them was really really good.

I have to test it more, but the first impression was very good, to recommend it to my friends :slight_smile:

EDIT: I found another bug, if I plug the Pimax after logging into windows, the software get crazy and the services stopped all the time, but if I start the PC with the Pimax connected it works perfect, but I hope they correct this bug too :wink:

PS. My PC have a i7-5930K and GTX1070

Thanks for your impressions. So the Headset is well suitable for Sim Racing?

If you don’t mind the lack of absolute tracking, and the little ghosting when you move the head fast, I think that it is a better option than the other HMDs, because the 4k improve te image quality (even if it is reescaled).

I also have the Razer HDK2 (which have te same specs as the Oculus and Vive), and now I rather play with the Pimax, because the image is sharper than the HDK. For example, in the Elite Dangerous, now I can read all the text without any problem :slight_smile:

Thanks, my Pimax should arrive soon, too.

To the Tracking: Do you mean an additional IR-Tracking would be well /better? Like - TrackIR 5 or DelanClip ?

Yes, you could use any of them to get the tracking, but I’ve been playing a couple of races in the PCars, and the experience was awesome, no nauseas and the image quality was very good, so for myself it is suitable for Sim Racing :wink: even without the absolute tracking.

Great. Can you post your settings ? :slight_smile:

I use the default settings, but with a supersampling of 1.8.

With 1.5 the experience was also great :wink: (the only diference was with tiny numbers in the car cockpit)

I have also a GTX 1070 EVGA FTW . What about the fps with these settings and full grid ?

I played in Laguna Seca, Shiny and with 20 cars in the grid, and it runs very smooth :wink:

I’ll test other circuits and weathers (because Stormy or Rainy need more power due the reflects)

Please, take a photo Pimax and Razer HDK2 together.

Here there is

Yo

And I found a video through the lense comparing the Pimax and the Vive

I cannot divide your positive impressions. IPD 50 - 75 nothing works for me, it’s blurry , issues over issues . Connect / Disconnect.

RMA to gearbest !

The IPD only control the distance between the two images, it has nothing to do with the blurry.

To solve it, had you tried to configure a Supersampling in SteamVR? I have it configurated with 1.8 and the difrerence is very noticeable.

And for the disconnect issue, I think that it is a software problem, maybe if you unistall it (including the java runetime) and then reinstall it again it will be solved (or maybe the USB where you connect the Pimax couldn’t provide the power they need to work correctly)
Yes, i have tried , but its not the same feeling, it’s only blurry and not good.Can you send me your text in the steamvr, that i can copy&paste ?

i uninstall 5 times , reinstall incl. java runtime .
The HMD doesn’t work for me, becaus it’s unclearly . Yes, there is no SDE but not looks better through this.

The immersion is much better with the Rift CV1 and i also think, that the FOV is smaller then the rift.

Then maybe you had the bad luck of get a defective unit :frowning:

Inside my SteamVR.vrsettings I have this

{
“collisionBounds” : {
“CollisionBoundsGroundPerimeterOn” : true
},
“power” : {
“powerOffOnExit” : false
},
“revive” : {
“PerfHudMode” : 0,
“QueueAheadEnabled” : true
},
“steamvr” : {
“background” : “D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\\resources\backgrounds\night_mountains.png”,
“directModeEdidPid” : 4121,
“directModeEdidVid” : 53838,
“mirrorViewGeometry” : “0 0 540 960”,
“renderTargetMultiplier” : 1.7999999523162842
}
}

I hope this will help and you solve the blurry problem :wink: (if is not a hardware issue)

Thank you, in my steamvr-settings is less in it . What does it mean “direct mode” ? I have only extended mode / pimax mode ?!

Direct mode is the same as Pimax mode, turn on the device when use it. But I don’t know if that line was created when I use the Pimax or maybe with another HMD, because I’ve had more XD (like the Oculus DK2 or the Razer HDK1.4/2)

I had the Rift CV1 , perhaps i have to delete SteamVR and shoult reinstall.

Thank you for sharing your impressions

The Oculus runetime doesn’t get along with the PimaxVR software :frowning:

I had it installed to get acces to the Oculus store (I have a couple of games buyed in it), and I have to unistall it to get the pimax working properly (or at least kill the Oculus process manually before start the Pimax), because if not, I suffer a lot of problems (the connect/disconnect issue, the pimax not get recognized… etc), but I get it work a couple of times, and the image wasn’t blurry (so the Oculus Runetime is not the cause)

Before reinstall the SteamVr, could you change the pimax to extended mode an check a demo of the pimax store? Because if the image still blurry, it means that is not a bad SteamVR configuration.
