Pimax 8k Updated Impressions & In-Depth Interview

would it be possible to add a vive to that image, to have a baseline to compare to existing?

Why are people expecting big screen to look great on the 8k? As already mentioned the higher FOV of course means you get less pixels per degree. My impression from reading from various sources is that while you can definitely tell that the pimax has higher resolution than vive/rift, the major selling point is the FOV.

@ Sofian.
“one headset, the 8kx, and give the possibility to people to use upscaling or not depending on their GPU”.
Indeed, that sounds great. But that makes the Pimax more expensive. That doesn’t matter to me, i would buy 1. But i’m not the only one on this world.

Have updated the image (same link as above). Keep in mind that a low contrast mosaic is probably the worst case scenario that wouldn’t be used in usual VR games optimized for today’s low-res panels. But it shows which details become visible with which panels/supersampling settings, which effect upscaling has etc.

Edit: Made two mistakes with the Vive image that fortunately almost eliminate each other: Calculated with 200° instead of 110° FoV and left the 16:9 ratio of Pimax/the original image instead of factoring in the 9:10 ratio of Vive. So the horizontal resolution of the Vive images should be 200 / 110 / (16 / 9) * (9 / 10) = 0.92% of what I used - so slightly worse. Imho not worth to render this again, just worth mentioning.

Any idea what is driving the price up?

With BigScreen wait on results. I have posted to bacon in another thread.

The issue with Bigscreen is convergence (ipd). While in games far off objects look clear & proper. Your brain can make corrections to bring the far off object in focus/alignment.

Text in Bigscreen is small & close object if the ipd is off text will be noticeably blurry.

With the v2 we know the ipd is not working. So to get an idea on potential quality (& good way to check ipd when working). Close one eye to see how the text should look with proper convergence.

Any way asked @bacon when they get a chance to post a pic or 2 through the lens as it will only be 1 eye.
