Of course I speak for myself. But I believe that like everyone here, I am waiting for the pimax 8K to be a reality and with that, we can come back here in the future and say thanks to pimax for the excellent product that was offered to us. But I must admit that if today were November 3, I would give up from my pledge. First of all, for some questions asked on the KS product page, they end up having the answer “I’ll check with the team”, “we’re checking” and “we’ll return with the answer later,” and then the questions simply die forgotten. Secondly, after several uninspiring opinions from those who have experienced the product, we realize that not everything is what Pimax claims to be. That´s is my perception so far.
Particularly I see no benefit in continuing to test the product (8K) with games like “fruit ninja” or something equivalent. Pimax 8K is an expensive product and we need to be absolutely certain of its functionality and features, both positive and negative.
8K must be tested and retested with games that match the expected quality of the product. Elite Dangerous is a good example of a game to use for reviews. It has excellent visual, high resolution, many texts to be read and enough movement in space and in the planets, which would give us an excelent perpective about the 8K.
We need videos and reviews with people playing this type of games to be sure about 8K quality and features.
As I said, without this, unfortunately I will definitely give up from my pledge and go to other models, even if inferior, because I can not rely on this product in the form that is being presented now.
I have to admit I too would be seriously considering cancelling my pledges if it was the last day.
Judging by what has been said by those who have tried the HMD on the tour, I don’t think I’d gain much by trying it for myself if it were to come to the UK, or a nearby country.
I’ll wait for sure until November 3rd. But it is interesting to express my point of view, because surely PIMAX needs to improve the way it is putting the product to be analyzed. In fact that is the focus of my post. I want to see the product tested with true games. And want videos about it.
If this was the last day I’d cancel 100% sure. Why take the gamble when there are so much uncertainties at this point. It would make much more sense to wait for others to try it first and see how they like it.
Pimax has 29 days left to convince us. I hope they take that seriously because those 29 days will pass by very quickly.
There is absolutely no reason to think that they won’t pull this off until they demoed the next prototype, we already know this one has issues, it doesn’t matter whether or not this prototype is awful or amazing.
Not only do they need to demonstrate a game we will actually be playing they need to demonstrate it on a computer with at least a GTX 1080 to show the full potential. We need to see how good it can look
Still to date there is nobody recomending the 8K over Vive
Maybe you’re right but pimax seems very confident in the current iteration and when asked about warping they simply say that they don’t experience it or that it’s incorrect ipd despite saying the current version ipd should be correct for almost everyone. I’m crossing my fingers for the next prototype, but i won’t be surprised if there are still issues.
The brainwarp technique is quite complex and according to many reviews is the things that already work. Being able to have a 2 panels with 4k (re-scaled from 2k, yes) that works at many fps, low latency and without requiring a very advanced GPU, is quite an achievement. It is generally said that when something does not bother, little is said about it … no one has heard complaints about ghosting, nor about weight or discomfort.
Some testers have not yet come to see these distortions, which would be confirming that everything is due to a poor adjustment of the IPD. Something to keep in mind is that the projection on the screen can be deformed and altered on demand with the software, this means that they can update it as often as needed and only need the lenses allow many options. All this leads me to the conclusion that from today they could be starting to make serial devices, and solve software problems by the way
But I still want to see positive reviews with “true games” and also images made through the lenses with these games. Simple things without much technical involvement, the result speaks for itself.
Agreed. Elite Dangerous is probably a good test for black levels and for color vibrancy. Black levels are a big issue for me as I’m planning to spend much time watching movies. What I need most is step up in terms of resolution and (lack of) SDE compared to my Vive, with comparable image/color quality and black levels. If these aspect won’t get addressed by some decent reviewer before the end of campaign, I also consider cancelling my KS pledge.
I do hope that we’ll get some good news in time, but time will tell.
I think you’re overstating the performance of brainwarp, reviewers have found that there was framerate issues with running on the laptop as well as having a sort of “jelly effect”, probably from what ever interpolation brainwarp does. As for IPD fixing the warping I’m not sure, maybe it can be fixed but maybe it’s a serious flaw in the device.
Obviously a laptop is not the best test bench, a low number of fps are normal in some moments, it is clear that many things need to be fixed … but everyone has agreed that the screen actually works at 90hz and that the screens are very low latency, that is the most important thing before they can start to produce, that the hardware is in order
they have to collect all the previous prototypes and send 3 or 4 manufactured according to the same standard, do all the demonstrations with a gtx1080 in a desktop pc to be able to use it in flight simulators and, of course, avoid all those drops of fps
