Hello.
My Pimax 4K produces some annoing noise when it’s working. It’s similar to poor-quality impulse power supply, like “bzzz…”. Noise is not loud but I can hear it clearly when device is nearby, and that is realy annoying. Is it normal?
And I can’t understand how works power button, when I pressing it nothing hapens. How it’s works or should work? Is it necessary always plug in/out USB cable to power on/off device?
I do not have noise in my set. I also only have to unplug/replug if I do a piplay update or patch win10 to the latest version (not critical/security updates) only version updates.
Is the noise happening all the time?
Can you confirm it stops when
A. Hdmi is disconnected
B. When USB is disconnected
If option B. is there another USB port you can try?
What graphics card are you plugging into?
What piplay are you using?
What firmware version are you using?
Eno
Noise happens only when it’s ready to use. If HDMI or USB is disconnected there is no noise. Also it disappears when switching between pimax/video mod, or when killing “pi_server.exe”/“PiService” process. No difference to what USB port it is connected, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB integrated to motherboard or third-party chip. When it works wrong, there is no image only dark gray display but it is connected there is no noise too. Later I’ll try to connect it to laptop working from battery, may be it’s caused by PC’s power supply.
Card - AMD Radeon RX560 and 17.11.1 driver
PiPlay - 2.0.5.46
Firmware - 1.0.0.256
Does the tone of the buzz change when your playing a game? Do you have the pimax headphones plugged in… If so can you unplug them and see if the noise stops
Thanks
Eno
There’s a faint electric current there, and me too, I think it’s probably the reason the helmet is working, I think it’s normal.
The power button needs to be long pressed to take effect.
I have been in this situation before. Probably it has something wrong with headset , you may check it and make sure to connect well.
As for the power button, you may long press it to start or turn off.
Does not matter, watching video, plaing game, or doing nothing, headphones connected or not, noise tone is the same.
Only if Pimax is not working, when it green light, there is no noise. When light is blue there is noise.
Also I tried the laptop on battery, and even with it Pimax produced noise, so this is not because of “bad power”.
Thanks. Power button works, now I got it. But 7-8 seconds … that is much more than I expected, tried only 2-3 seconds.
it does sound like a hardware fault… i will tag the support team for you

It’s annoying but not that much to send this device back and wait for a new one. And headphones helps to silence it at all.
But I want to know could be this noise be a symptom of some problems in device, that it can sooner or later break down.
Hi, the device should be normal. How long did you buy it so far? I suggest that you may continue to use it and give us feedback in time if this issue becomes worse.
