Pimax 4k In Disconnect Reconnect Loop When Using Video Mode

@PIMAX-Support
Hey, I just received my headset in the mail today and I’m having issues with getting video mode to work in order to play Oculus rift games.

Pimax mode works as intended and functions well with steamvr, yet whenever I put the headset into video mode I enter a loop of disconnects and reconnects, It also automatically opens Kodi on the wrong display. Its become quite frustrating for me as several of the games I want to play on my new piece of kit only support Oculus.

I’ve tried multiple reinstalls of Piplay, every time manually shutting down all processes and removing all files that the uninstaller misses, no luck with that.

I have tried downgrading to Piplay version 1.1.92, from 1.2.91 the problem persisted with extend mode in 1.1.92.

I’ve done multiple reboots.

I’ve also reinstalled Java.

The light on the headset also remains blue the entire time and the screen is still on, though not displaying anything.

Any help would be appreciated, I really want to get to experiencing VR. If its any help, I’m also on Windows 10 Creators Update.

Edit: Here’s a video of the issue in action

Pimax is not friends with Windows 10 Creators Update.Edit

Can I fix this with compatibility settings? Reinstalling windows would be kind of a pain in the ass right now and I don’t have any pre-CE ISO’s so I would have to download one again.

There is no point in rearranging when you can simply pull out the version to an older one

I can’t revert to a previous version, I didn’t update from one. This computer is a fresh install from a CE ISO. The only way I could revert back to anniversary edition would be a full reinstall.

Hi, Video mode is only used for watching regular 2D, 3D videos.
If you wanna play Rift games, you could firstly install Oculus Home and log in your account and then download those games, finally Piplay will automatically detect and load them into its interface after you rebooted Piplay or PC. You can play Oculus games in Pimax mode.

As you know, we have integrated previous Extended mode, Direct mode and Pimax mode into Pimax mode only since Piplay 1.2.33.

Regarding connected issue in Video mode, have you tired to unplug one of other two monitors?
Or have you disabled anti-virus software when you installed Piplay driver?

Thank you for the quick response, I wasn’t aware that I could play Oculus games that way.

Yes, I’ve tried unplugging both of the monitors separately. And also yes, I did disable my antivirus for the setup process.

You’re welcome, could we use Teamviewer if you’re available? If yes, please send ID & Password of Teamviewer to support@pimaxvr.com or message me in Forum.

No disrespect, but I’d prefer not to use TeamViewer for privacy concerns. Not that I perceive any ill will, I’ll admit I’m just a bit paranoid.

Is there anything that I could try on my own? I can provide logs if necessary.

The video mode isn’t a huge deal for me, as long as I can play my Oculus games I’m pretty much fine. So if there isn’t anything that I can do on my own I’m happy as is with the Oculus games working.

Hi, I absolutely understand, no matter

Yes, please use Debug_tool in Piplay setting to export logs about this situation in Video mode to support@pimaxvr.com, we will analyze it and find out a solution.

Edit: Please try to right-click Piplay icon in the bottom right corner of PC to switch modes, or quit Steam and see whether this issue still exist.

Alright, I’ve sent the logs.

Closing Steam, using right click to switch modes, or both at the same time produces the same behavior.

Yes, I received it and will reply you soon

If its any help, I also have a similar issue where when I try to set SteamVR to extended mode nothing happens. Might be caused by the same thing as the video mode problem.

I think I may have just fixed the issue!

For anyone that may have the same problem, switching to 1080p mode allowed me to enter extend mode properly. Switching back from 1080p mode I can now switch back and forth properly and use video mode.

Edit: Spoke too soon, went back to having issues after about 10 minutes of working properly. Automatically switched to video mode from Pimax mode and persisted with the previous problems.

Any luck with those logs?

SteamVR should work with Pimax mode : )

I have not received the testing report from our software testing department yet, I will reply you once I got it.

Yes, usually games work fine in Pimax mode through Steamvr. Its just one of the games I’m trying to play (TF2) uses extended mode through Steamvr, so I thought it might be a bug that Steamvr cant switch the headset over to extended mode for that when I have direct mode disabled in Steamvr’s settings.
