New XTAL discussion thread for 2021/2022

Something else interesting, the auto IPD set my lenses off set. In other words, my left eye was set at 29.5mm and my right eye was at 31.5 leading me to believe my left eye is closer to my nose. I tried the auto IPD setting several times and it always came up close to this parameter within a few tenths of a mm. It will be interesting to see if the 8K measures my IPD the same

That is quite awesome. Look forward to your evaluation once you have received and have time to evaluate.

yeah 100% . It should come with native display port 2.0 allowing full resolution at 90hz and more

Really awesome offer of them and really looking forward to your impressions! Fingers crossed that the 8k V2 fixes the issues!

Thank you sir. Check out this clip from CES. Your new XTAL 3 wont even need to have IPD adjustment! Crazy

DHL express is fast and cheap but I guess you would have more options there in the US. They are based in Europe so shipping lines are well established even with Covid

Thanks for the reply. I tried to ship with DSL but the Mail Box shop I went to couldnt get the shipment to “go through” with DHL. Also XTAL reps said they didnt think there was a DHL delivery to their location, might be due to covid. So looks like I might have to go with USPS.

Interesting. Never had any issues and I send all over the world. Perhaps they are remote

the lenses on the starvr are horrible. If you take them out… vow the image is pretty great. ofcourse the persepective also isnt filled. But i would say for cretain with proper aspheric lenses it would be a totally different hmd

Xtal is the only company that actually can update your hmd. That´s also one factor in the price.
Offcourse it´s not free but they offer upgrade and update services to their units. And those guys are really cool down to earth guys.

I think your one of the first ppl I have heard saying the StarVR One lenses are terrible as majority have said distortion free.

Shure distorstion free. i wasnt talking about that.
I just meant they are opticly pretty poor. allthough some of the blurrines can also caused by the huge manipulation of pixels or warping what ever you wanna call it.
I just know how the panels look when you remove the lenses

Primary cause of that is the very low pixel density. With a density like that there is not much to manipulate. Sure, your distortion correction mask is there but the image itself looks clear to me, it’s just the density spread out over such a wide area leaves them with very little in the way of techniques that can be applied after that.

trust me, the lenses could be much better. plastic is a stupid idea to begin with when we are talking about high end priced device.
They arent somthing you just pop in… you have to demo the whole unit to take out the lenses.
To me it would made much more sense to make the lenses glass just because opticly they are far superiour and they resis way , way more better the use.
The StarVr lenses are dual element on top of eachother so i don´t know maby that would reguire dual glass element also.

Fresnel VR lenses are usually made out of plastic I’m not even sure if there’s a VR headset out there with glass fresnel? I’m not aware of such headset… Also you said you “just know how the panels look when you remove the lenses” but how did you check that, just with your naked eye or through another lens? Because surely, with the naked eye those panels will look super sharp, it’s of course only under magnification of a lens that those resolutions will or will not start to look blurry.

Of course frensel adds some blurriness, it always does, but I’m not sure if the StarVR lenses are any worse there than for example the Index lenses.

I’m pretty sure @PimaxUSA is right, the resolution of the StarVR was just way too low to begin with. Really too bad because the undistorted super wide FoV was just so awesome!

i meant aspheric glass lenses. an i said pimax. i meant starvr …
The low resolution of the panel is also one factor the image is too blurry.
im just saying the image would have been much better with proper aspereric lenses, and propably good enough for most.

Sadly they skimped on that.
StarVr seems pretty dead. they have not released software update after 2020 and the dual gpu possiblity they talked about seems to be buried totally.
It´s a real shame.

Strictly speaking, since 2018. By the way, the HMD is also from those old days.

I’ve got an 8K and I cannot get it to display a clear picture. When I run auto IPD the lenses move but the sweet spot is in towards my nose, no matter what I do. So I have to look left or right at least 10 degress and then toward my nose to see clearly. I originally had a 5k, and then when the 8K was released I sent it back for an upgrade. It came back and it was way worse than the 5K.

I got sick and didn’t use the headset for a year and some months. I’m finally better somewhat and I have been trying for days to get a clear picture. It’s literally worse than my Index. Just super blurry. I’ve been trying to work with support and have asked them if I can upgrade the lenses and maybe send it in for service.
