Funny how much more colour Index has to Pimax considering they’re both LCD panels and Pimax has colour correction/adjustment settings now.
The difference is really remarkable. Even the black value of the index is noticeably better.
easily? even with the last colors adjustment this level of saturation relate visually to better contrast and better black level. But I will wait for Tyriel Wood and Sveviver thru the lens captures before making a final judgement
By the way are we not a bit of topic here?
One of the artists at Croteam lobbed a screen calibration sensor into a few devices, and measured for the Valve Index a colour gamut that falls somewhere between the Vive (OLED), and RiftS, which is LCD, just like the Index – panels come with all sorts of variation of properties. :7
Unfortunately he didn’t (…or so I assume) have any 8k nor 5k+ to add to the plot, so we have no idea where they fall, precisely.
(Note that this is a matter of the ability of the screens to physically reproduce colours - not how an image is balanced: If my screen is sRGB, I can increase saturation to modify the colour contrast within the sRGB triangle, which is nice, and can really turn your virtual environment “radioactive” with luster, but I do not have the purer and more distanced primary colours (at the vertices), to actually output light that is “more red”, etc; No entirely accurately rendered Coke-cans for us…:7
I had the Odyssey and I think the 5k+ definitely improves SDE and pixel density over the Odyssey… imho
Similar quality, way higher FoV… I personally take the FoV so I don’t play my games through goggles.
If my pimax 5k+ is set to high backlight brightness then +1 contrast and -1 brightness it looks a lot closer to the above index picture than the above pimax photo to me
pimax quality 1 steam ss 250%
You missing 8k. Also you should edit your first post, you’re stating vertical res whereas everything is about horizontal.
I didn’t put 8k becuase its upscale, so it’s hard to tell pixel density in this term.
to me, the pixel density has no many different and lens shot quality is always changed by angle.
Truth it’s hard but almost need to use Sub Pixel densities vs straight resolution density. Lol
Upscaled pixel density is not directly affected; simply quality of upscaled vs native image quality.
Indeed layered lenses can also affect perceived pixel density as well vs single lens.
Updated–
7/3/2019
-Vive Cosmos and Pimax 5k XR had been added.
-HP Reverb and Pimax 4k’s Panel usage is decreased by fixed IPD unit.
-Matrix and Screen door chart slot had been added.
If it contains any wrong information please Let me know. I will fix it ASAP
Yes really better, you should take a shoot a Jojon suggestion and use vertical FOV instead of H FOV. the 5K+ has a better definition than OD+ and just a more SDE 10 to 30%
Also although more semantic than anything else I wouldn’t boost panel usage past 1.0 just to arrange your line up. Maybe add a new column with subjective optical quality rating purely personal choice
No difficulties expressing PPD for devices with different subpixel tricks, to my mind: Just print it individually per primary colour.
- With pentile, Green is advertised resolution, whilst Red and Blue are 1.41 worse.
- With the screens in the vanilla p8k, the whole resolution - all three primaries - is 1,41 lower than advertised.
Why do you have the utilization of the rift s lower than cv1? It’s showing the same ppd in your chart but I’m practice looks far better
you’re right, I will going to modify it.
