HTC is back! Vive pro 2 with 2.5k * 2.5k per eye @ 120 hz

i did some more tests now,now i did leave the vive console on automatic and steam at 100% sampling…

To my suprise it looked even better, even that it says the same resolution 3260&3260… it was close now with the G2… i think maybe about 10% less sharp… it looked realy good… A pitty about the glare… but i think index upgraders would love this… Exept offcourse the bad headphones and mic…

I am gonne fiddle some more with the vive pro 2…

Yeah the headphones are Worthless. Sadly I had to plug in some type c headphones after being so accustomed to the G2/Index speakers.

What’s funny is I didn’t notice that big of a gap in audio from the HTC Deluxe audio strap as compared to Index /Reverb. Somehow it seems like these speakers are worse than the ones on the OG DAS.

For the iRacing delay thing, that has been an issue with the Index forever, with no fix it seems. People are using Revive to use the Oculus mode (might kill some performance, but you won’t have the delayed movement). Check the iRacing forums. It’s title something like “Valve Index users, can you check this?” Here: Log in | iRacing.com™ Motorsport Simulations

BTW iRacers are just as passionate about good VR as this forum (I’m guessing there’s some overlap). Long threads in the VR forum are about 8KX, G2, Pro 2. Unfortunately you need to be a member of iRacing to access the forums.

Yeah, I could never get both eyes into the Sweet spot at the same time on the 8kx which was unfortunate.

Does anyone else got problem with tracking in iRacing?

Interesting as I am avid iracer.heres my most recent paint scheme.

Well as far as I’m reading other topics, Vive Pro 2 doesn’t work with iRacing. There’s a problem with tracking, the same problem that had vive pro and index. Only solution is to use revive and lose performance.

I guess nothing I can do but to return it.

Wow…that sucks. Iracing is my main vr sim. Does it lose tracking? Or is it studder

I did have a period with 8kx.where it would just lose tracking and go blank for few seconds but that hasn’t happened in quite some time.

It’s the same problem that others guys were talking on iRacing forum:

Trying to describe the issue is difficult but when I load up Centripetal circuit and sit in the car. I then focus on the buildings in the distance while moving my head up/down/sideways it feels like everything outside of the car moves, (warps maybe) awkwardly and slightly in relation to the car.

This topic is from 2019 and they’re still talking about it even today, as vive pro 2 got the same problem.

Yeah this is again REALLY bad from HTC. I’m in the same boat. I do see a 'pending 'charge on my CC, but still no email from them. I also wouldn’t know how to cancel it and now you can buy it at B&H and they ship directly. Damn, that’s really bad. Never ever going to pre-order from HTC again that’s for sure.

Even Pimax did this a lot better with the 8k-X.

EDIT @NextGenVR actually I just tried cancelling. I went to the Vive website and there in the support section was a link to the digitalriver website (which seems to do their order process) and there I could lookup and request to cancel my order (which didn’t work from the HTC website, they couldnt even get that right!). They said it might be too late though, but if that happens the headset can at least be returned.

I’ve just placed the order at B&H. Damn HTC!

I ve tried to cancel vp2 as well and haven’t heard from them to confirm…

So i have the device now some days.
I must say my hate is turning to love with the device

Today i added a gear vr cover(yes from the good old days) and to my surprise the glare is way way less now… also the picture quality is very good.

I also found a nice setup with boom 3d audio for the headphones and now they are usable…

The mic is not so bad… i recorded some stuff for my self and without any mods it was very passible…Also people online said i was good understandable. And is was not very bad…

One thing there is still a bug in the software… steamvr ads motionsmoothing even when its off…
If the games run at 90 its no problem… but if you have a game thats demanding it kicks in… But i dont want that!

But i decided to keep the vive 2 now…
The device needs time and some modding… But after that its very nice!

As I mentioned I was able to read the text, @ 90hz/150% with the the VP2 but I also tried the same test with my quest 2 over link. Maxed out the settings in oculus settings and with Steam so @ 100% I had zero issues reading the txt in Steam home. This VP2 is such a mixed bag. May return it the re- buy it in a couple of months when it’s on clearance and a more appropriate price.

A day in and i like it more and more. Thing is though to get an acceptable fov you pretty much have to keep it on your face with no foam at all. At least for me. Ill add just enough so i dont get any pain from the HMD on top of my nose. Then its vertical fov is acceptable and wide fov is quite nice. Just enough to seriously consider dropping the 8kX. Mainly due to eyestrain but the sharp picture and excellent colors on the VP2 is something i sorely miss in the 8kX

As for sound they should have just shipped it without any… Even though they may need some burn in they just sound terrible to me. Iracing LMP2 was just omg it sounds so bad.

Then there are the other issues of course. Tracking lag in Iracing is a big no no but i dont notice as much while driving.

i like the device also more and more,i needed also to be close as possible to the lenses… I need to tweak it some more…

For audio use the program Boom 3d… i got a decent sound now…
i was just chatting in the shooter contractors and he also said the mic sounded fine he was using the G2… He was suprised also because he heard also the bad talking about the mic too…

At first i found the mic also bad,but i had the gain to high… Now its fine i think
