HOW TO Connect Install and Setup PiMax 4K [2018- PiPlay Vr.2.0.5]

Dear @Pimax-Support . Thanks for this awesome product . I’m a game developer using Unity. I wish to make this device run int my game. I purchase a PiMax 4K.

  • I download the PiPlay Vr2.0.5.46 from https://www.pimaxvr.com/en/piplay/ but it did not make an icon on the desktop.

  • I turnOff the Pc and connect the VR device USB to a USB 3 and HDMI into the GTX 1080Ti
Pc Os is Windows 10 (GPU are Amd 7970 | Hdmi to GTX 1080Ti | monitor 4k And Oculus Rift) My monitor is 4k

  • Turn on the PC. I press the Power button on the Vr PiMax device for 7sec. and a green led turns on then blue. The device display is showing an extended part of the desktop.

  • Since there is no icon to “C:\Program Files\Pimax\PiPlay2\PiPlayDesktop.exe” i created one but now each time I run the application it ask me to run it as administrator mode.

  • I run PiPlay2 and I click in the chain icon. it tells me that the USD “Unrecognized” and HDMI “Disconnected”

Yes the device is On. Yes I try to connect the Usb to other Usb3 and 2. The same for the other HDMI positions. I check for the integrity of the graphic card driver and upgrade it. I try to use only one graphic card. My monitor is 4k and I pass to a smalle HD.

What to do now?
Is it working?

@Pimax-Support @Doman.Chen

Which Graphics Card are you using? The 1080ti or the amd 7970?

If both are installed in the system you may need to disable or remove 1. Either way a goid way to test.

If your motherboard has an igpu its best to disable in the bios. Also what cpu are you running?

Piplay didn’t create a launch icon on desktop & start menu?

I added a couple of pokes to your post to help support find your topic.

Thanks Heliosurge for giving more better info asking this questions.

I remove the 7970 from the motherboard and I’m using the GTX 1080Ti only
The GTX Hdmi is connecting one monitor 4k and on a second Hdmi the PiMax VR device.

The driver is 388.13 and is above the specifications Requirements: 362.00

i7 - 2600K .How do I disable my internal cpu graphic, using the bios? Do I need to do so?

YES,
The software publish in the link https://www.pimaxvr.com/en/piplay/
pressing the official button to: http://piplay-us.pimaxvr.com/PiPlay_Setup_2.0.5.46.zip
Unzipping it , disable all the antivirus as for exception of the internal Windows
and I run PiPlay_Setup_2.0.5.46 as administrator mode in a regular user,
and looks like there was no launcher. It install the software but with no options.
I did an icon manually. To: C:\Program Files\Pimax\PiPlay2\PiPlayDesktop.exe
This is my first installation using this product. I do not know if I’m going good.
But looks like the launcher is not correctly set up and is missing some other info.

Also: Each time I need to launch this PiPlay 2 is asking for admin permission.
And it does not start automatically when the Pc starts. This start option (boolean is set to true) is check selected inside PiPlay.
I also remember that in the installation process the software did not recognize my GTX 1080 Ti as above the specifications.

Okay with the Igpu you will need to disable it in the bios this will be why its reporting your graphics is under spec. You might also after disabling in the bios you might need to disable it Windows device manager.

I had to disable it on my i5 6500 setup with r9 390.

During Piplay installation it should also prompt to install Java & Directx. & should ask if you want to launch on startup & give option of desktop shortcut. For simplicity you can right click the shortcuts & change compatability to launch as admin.

I would reccommend after disabling igpu in bios & test. Piplay. You might also need to try hoiking your monitor up with dp or dp adapter2hdmi or dvi if available.

@Enopho has a pimax 4k headset & 2 systems with 1080 ti cards & will more than likely able to help. And will know which Nvidia driver wirks.:beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Welcome to PiMax Forums. PiMax does have an sdk as well.

Thanks for the nice welcome!

  • I started my pc as administrator.
  • I update the Aorus Graphic Engine application.
  • I stooped all Oculus Rift software running in the background.
  • Then I reinstall the PiPlay 2 and the GTX 1080Ti was accepted in the installation process.

Still did not make any icon; the PiMax is not recognized inside PiPlay2.
There is a chance the device is broken? Or sometimes happens that is not recognized? Do I need to install steam to be recognized?
I run the VC.exe I do not know what is for and it was in the folder.

JAVA
NO THAKS!? I do not know about Java. The average user does not install Java and avoid it. I clearly remember that has a lot of security problems and since them I try to avoid it.Is a software that let the server use my Pc.
If Is it installed in my pc, how to know that?
And where to download if it was not included in the PiPlay 2 launcher.

DirectX
Yes,I installed the additional DirectX files that was included in the folder. I was hopping not to modify my Microsoft Direct X. Windows 10 is pretty stable and auto updates. Do I really need to modify my Microsoft 10 Direct X?

IGPU
Since it recognise the Nvidia Gtx1080Ti in the installetion process…
Do I still I need to do this? The average player is not capable of doing this.

Resume: I open my Pc I take out my nice ATI gpu, I take out my 4k monitor and pass to very small HD, I take out the internal GPU of the Cpu, I installed JAVA… , I modify Windows DirectX and I feel like I destroying my Pc. I wish it more plug and play software. I know they are working on it and the video quality is awesome. But on the software side is this really the way?

I have 2x i7 4750 with 1080ti cards and I have not had any issues installing and getting piplay working.

It was fairly simple as long as there are no internal gpu that are enabled. Note igpu are usually only on laptops not desktops

You should not need to install piplay as admin, and if you do it will be promoting you each time you launch piplay for admin confirmation.

Get the latest download of piplay from pimax website and then if you have klite codex installed, uninstall it as piplay will install the compatible klite codec as part of its install.
As mentioned it will also install a specific direct x and some Java (this is needed for it to work)

I also have the aourus gtx 1080ti cards but I plug my 3 monitors into the 3 display ports and use the 4k on the back hdmi (never tried on the front one)

I use the latest nvidia drivers as well on the latest piplay version

After I stalling everything you then need to unplug and replug the USB of the pimax cable. Leave it out for 5sec and then plug back in… The led on the pimax should be blue… If it’s green the USB needs to be unplugged and replugged in

I would put your PC back the way it was
1 primary gpu and no internal igpu enabled
Uninstall all you have installed with the piplay so far
Remove all software leftovers
Uninstall klite if it’s installed
Install a clean version of piplay as a user not admin, if it prompts for admin credentials then enter them.
Make sure that all of the software installs, directx Java etc and a piplay icon should appear on your desktop - if it doesn’t then you can get @Pimax-Support to use teamviewer to help with the installation.

Hoe this helps

Thanks @Enopho

No,…I have done that as you mention and describe in my post.

I as a user not admin, installed latest PiPlay Vr2.0.5.46 from https://www.pimaxvr.com/en/piplay/ and when it prompts for admin credentials then I enter them. But it did make any icon shortcut.

There was no Dx or java as part of the installation. Where in a separate VC exe and Dx rar files in the same folder nor JAVA. The download file was a zip file with few bad instruction on it. I also run all the aplications as mention on the poor readme file.

If Java Is it installed in my pc, how to know that?
And where to download if it was not included in the PiPlay 2 launcher.
Is included in this particular latest PiPlay Vr2.0.5.46?

From where do you get your piplay from?
Can you pass me the link that you are using. Because my do not include java nor
icons in the installation process. i disable antivirus in the installation process.

  • From where do you get your piplay from? because is not making icons shortcuts.
  • How do I disable my internal cpu graphic? I set up in the bios Init Display First using PEG and now what else I need to change in Windows for that?
  • Did you run PiPlay Vr2.0.5.46? did it make icons , installed java and Dx automatically?

Did you try as Eno suggested hooking your monitor up via DP? & headset on hdmi?

Either way at this time support with teamview looks to be best solution.

Now and today I could install PiPlay 2.0.7.54.
But there’s a bug in the software. It don’t have a version check. IAfter installation and starting there is a red point on the yellow star that says, there is a new update aviable, but there isn’t. Please correct this.
And I cannot select german language during setup and in the app itself. Only Chinese, Japanese and English can be select. The German language file is present, but I can’t select the language itself inh the pull down menu.
