How many of you 8K X backers will be requesting the 8K?

I am on the fence. By requesting the 8K I do not mean changing pledges. I mean requesting to get the 8K then shipping it before the 8K X arrives.

Why or why not?

What are your reasons?

I will not be requesting an 8K because I am ordering one as well as an 8K X, Once my 8K X arrives I will sell my 8K (as long as my PC has no problems running the X).

I originally backed the 8K X (HMD only) to be used for my sim-pit I’m building in the spring (so good timing).

I then figured, I could use the loaner 8K as a replacement for my roomscale Vive in the living room (kids love VR), so I added $499 for that, along with $150 for two lighthouses.
After a while, I thought: what the hell, let’s also go for the controllers, see how they turn out.
Then the 10m cable showed up and it was too good to resist.

So I’m currently pledging $1570 total for:

  • 8K X
  • 8K full package
  • 10 cable

I just added the 8K yesterday after watching SweVivers review, just to be sure to have it when the X arrives and I find out my system cannot support it well enough.
My original plan was to purchase the 8K at the time of the swap, as I assume that will be offered at such time… but, well, what if they don‘t offer it, what do do then…

I did the same. I look at it this way… (everyone else has different circumstances)

  1. Don’t have to pay for shipping $499+shipping = net value ~$539

  2. extra free $100 coupon off wireless… = net value becomes ~$639
    So if the wireless costs $200 or more, I hope to combine both coupons for something I’d have already bought anyway. (not sure that they would accept multiple coupons in a single transaction though)

  3. Added value of other stretch goals… increases resale value if I decide to onsell it… = net value ~$700

  4. Import tax australia, July 2018 onwards, all goods would require gst/import tax on low value goods…So I figured I might as well get the 8k, assuming it will arrive before that date… (8K X full package will probably have taxes incurred regardless) unless Pimax finds a distributor and eats the cost. This means the 8K would have increased in intrinsic value at my location by 10% after July…= net value ~$770.

  5. No idea how well the 8k X will run yet…and not having to send back an item to China to receive a backed item…(convenience)…

  6. As I backed both, I have an option to use the 8k for gaming performance, and the 8kX for better visual acuity in virtual desktops…

So from my standpoint there is potential net value of ~$770 from the initial $499 money used to purchase as compared to retail not taking into account potential price increase.

Good points

If we add the 499,- for the additional 8K, I assume we also get the KS stretchgoals for this second unit, i.e. second audiostrap etc…
It would be absolutely logical because we are also paying the regular KS price for this second unit, just as if we had pledged it separately.
