How do you get the base stations to connect?

I’m taking a break from this for now. I did try pushing the button in the hole but the only way to see what channel it’s set to is to view it in steam which doesn’t work when steam says it doesn’t see it at all. Any of the base station options in steam simply say Bluetooth must be on and Bluetooth unavailable. I’ll try the presenting in front of the base stations prob next weekend.

That second link actually sounds exactly like the same issues I’m having! Unfortunately doesn’t help since their hadn’t been resolved yet lol but I bet we’re having the same root issue.

For channel detection, you do not need the BT. I do not have LH v2.0 so unfortunately I cannot confirm the exact procedure, but as long as the LH icon turns blue (blinking or steady) the LH is registered by the headset, which should receive the basic telemetry via the modulated laser sweep.

BT is needed for communication to the LH, which includes power management, and firmware update. For tracking alone BT is not necessary.

  • Long shot, but I will ask you; The base stations are hard connected/screwed to something stiff? My (1.0) does not work when moving/loose, like hanging on wires.
  • Also in my case, if I plug only 1 base station, my HMD gets positioning easier and faster that on 2 bs. You may try with only one bs first.
  • Move at least 1m away from bs, or more.
  • cover big shinny glass surfaces
  • do “Pimax dance” with HMD in front of bs (just turn your HMD several times in front of bs)
  • remove plastic foil from bs-s front
  • do not cover HMD (like I wanted to protect it with bathroom silicone, but then I remembered there are sensors in HMD…)

I decided to give another try. Using a single base station. Base station is on a nice solid surface in front of the TV set facing the couch. Both controllers and base station are solid on in pitools. But it still says head set not tracking, and won’t let me do the room setup.

And I tried walking the head set up to the base station and rotating the headset in front of it and everything. And yes I took the protective plastic of the base station before anything hehe

Hello Dmharris,

Did you manage to setup the HMD correctly now?
Still got any issue on the tracking?

Please let me know if you have any of these.

Have a nice day.

Sincerely,

I was able to fix mine by cycling through the channels on the one that wasn’t connecting.

On the back of the station there’s a pin hole with a button that changes the station’s channel. Highlighting the base station on SteamVR will tell you which channel they are on, one should be on 1 and the other on 2.After cycling through all the channels and back to 2, mine started connecting consistently. The recommended max distance between 2 stations is about 5 meters, though some have been able to stretch to 7 meters.

My last post is the current situation. Using only one base station, the base station and controllers are solid on in PiTool but the HMD still says not tracking and won’t let me do the room setup. In STEAM VR it says can’t find HMD. If I have "lighthouse tracking OFF in PiTool then steam vr does recognize the HMD but without tracking of course.

Ah, I had some issues at first since my PiTool was out of date and wouldn’t self update, affecting firmware updates as well.

Try these steps:

Uninstall PiTool using software, I recommend IObit Uninstaller, it will do a better job clearing all files.
Turn off computer.
Turn off HMD.
Turn on computer.
Install latest PiTool (1.0.1.249_R255 I believe)
Run PiTool with Admin privileges
Once PiTool is fully up, turn on HMD, there will likely be a firmware update.
After possible firmware update and HMD light is green, turn on lighthouse tracking if it isn’t already.
Run SteamVR from PiTool

When I uninstalled PiTool and installed the new version from the website it did what you’re saying however it sounds like not as new a version as you’re saying. I’ll try this tonight!

Can someone please send me a link to the most recent version of PiTool?

Haven’t played around much yet but still doesn’t seem to want to track. I did notice the light on the base station has been white this whole time. It should be blue if connected to the head set right? Could I maybe need to flash the head set firmware? I was backer 807 so I assume I got one of the first head sets made maybe something needs a forced update Idk…
At this point I feel like it’s a head set issue not a computer or base station issue…

I would probably get a TeamViewer session scheduled via @PimaxQuorra by now.

Pimax tech guys might have a few tricks up their sleeves (if the headset isn’t defective)…

Hello Dmharris,

If the base station has been white this whole time, which means it is not detectable. Even before you connect to the headset, it will showed in blue. We suggest you to get the Personal User Support and let our technician to assist you.

I’m yet another user with the same issue: headset is correctly connected and works, but my Vive (B + C) base stations (v1.0), and my Vive controllers are not detected neither by PiTool nor by SteamVR.
For comparison I’ve had my HTC Vive headset for more than 2 years and it still works perfectly with all my base stations and controllers.

I had read the various complaints on this forum before purchasing the 5K+ so I knew what I was potentially getting into, so please don’t read this as a complaint on my part. However I’m also not looking for the “have you turned it off and on again” type of advice. If you have actual technical knowledge to share then I’m interested.

I have browsed the forum for clues and I’ve read this thread entirely and I tried every trick in it without success.

Here’s what I observe having done a fresh install of the latest PiTool available from the main Pimax site and after trying out all the tips & tricks found on this forum.

When SteamVR is started via PiTool it indicates that Bluetooth isn’t working, which is the main reason it can’t connect to the base stations. This is the case regardless whether or not the Vive link box is connected to the computer. It looks like PiTools is not utilizing the Vive’s built-in Bluetooth system. It’s also not using the motherboard’s built-in Intel Bluetooth. I also tried a Sitecom Bluetooth dongle I had laying around but still no joy.
However when I plug in and use my Vive HMD and plainly run SteamVR everything works again. I would like that to be the same with my 5K+.

My family and I don’t play flight or racing sims. We mainly use Beat Saber and some action RPG games, so we do need full tracking with controllers and with at minimum 2 base stations.

Any novel ideas are welcome.
Thanks.
