For games like Dirt Rally in steam, when opening with steamvr it reads that the game will open in both an hmd environment as well as on my pc. I do not want this I simply want it to open in the hmd environment.
With any game that opens like this, it doesn’t even run correctly in my hmd and is completely unusable.
I have also tried running vorpx at the same time configured for the game with no avail.
Any help would be amazing!
This is how it’s intended to work (i guess), you cant run it only in hmd.
With SteamVR it may vary from game 2 game. Check SteamVR settings there is an option to have a mirror open. If this option is enabled; uncheck it. Use SteamVR on your main monitor to find this option (don’t believe its visible in Hmd).
When i get a chance will post screenshots to help.
As you can see Dirt rally is also show on monitor because it’s a projection of the monitor to the headset.
Most of games are like this.
How would I set this up through steam and external applications?
Would it be a mirror to the headset? so extend mode but in display settings change them to be identical and then how do I setup dirt rally for this?

How to start oculus games: http://community.openmr.ai/t/how-to-use-pimax-4k-to-play-games-which-are-developed-by-oculus-sdk/592
Probably. The video from the top shows oculus game and i guess there is mirror window too (small size, but still).
p.s. you can decrease the resolution in game video settings to decrease overall quality of the mirrored window. Dont worry, this is not going to apply for VR since pimax is forcing his own resolution regardless game settings, so you can even set it to 640x480 to improve performance (which i cant guarantee, honestly to say i dont think that the mirrored window takes a lot of pc resources).
For Dirt rally the resolution settings only apply to the monitor. For the headset it’s the default steamVR resolution.
Try to put all graphics settings to minimum then ajust each settings to get the best playable game.
This didnt work because I wanted to play steam games not oculus :’(
Dirt Rally currently supports Oculus headset.
I haven’t used it by look up “Revive” its a application layer to run Oculus Games.
If games have support of VR and htc vive then all you have to do is to start piplay, start steam vr, launch the game from your games library. Nothing else needed. As mentioned before and in the video from the top — dirt rally supports only oculus, so you have to run it as oculus game (not really important if its steam edition or not, it all about what kind of headset the game supports).
and I would tell steamvr that I have an oculus with revive or?
Revive is a tool to emulate oculus device using htc vive.
In our case its double emulation, pimax emulates htc vive and then revive emulates an oculus device, so you’re able to run a game in oculus mod if the game has oculus support.
Emulation of htc vive isnt hard, steam recognize the headset without any problems.
Emulation of Oculus is a bit harder, you can find this out by google:" How to run oculus ready games with htc vive" or by using search on this forum (it has couple threads about oculus games, better start here).
I cannot open any games using revive because I have no controllers to open the dashboard in steamvr.
If you have oculus home installed try a link i’ve sent you yesterday.
Unfortunately i cant help anymore, never tried to run oculus games, looking for a solution too (have no controllers too).
The problem is they aren’t oculus games they are with steamvr :’(
thanks for the help.
What you mean by saying ‘they’?
Dirt rally for example is not steamvr game, its oculus ready game.
Found a redit thread about dirt rally, seems not too old, not sure if it works.
I purchased the game with steam.
So whenever I go to play the game it opens both in the hmd as well as in steam and the environment in hmd is bugged.
I have already explained to you that purchasing a game in steam does not makes it steamvr game. Please read posts wisely, it’s not fun to write same things if you dont listen.
So once again (last time), dirt rally is oculus ready game, that means it supports oculus. It supports oculus if you buy it from oculus store, it supports oculus if you buy it from steam, it supports oculus if your grandma purchased a game disc for you, it does not support steamvr and the only way to launch it to use some kind of emulators like revive with no guarantee it will work because steamvr (and pimax) are not officially supported.
I have found for the most up to date guide on how to start the game with revive, link is posted (and probably ignored) from above.
Understanding game info as Industria has explained is needed.
The above pic is for the game Sublevel Zero.
This game supports directly 3 main Vr headset standards.
- Triangle Htc
- Oval. Oculus
- Rectangle OSVR
Beneath that shows important details on controls & type of vr supported in this example Gamepad, keyboard & seated.
I believe the HTC Vive is the one that has best out of the box SteamVR. But be sure to check Inputs & enviroment. OSVR may also have good out the box support with PiMax 4k.
Inputs support
Gamepad. (Gamepad, racing wheel etc)
Keyboard & Mouse.
**Must support above to play. Motion controllers require 3rd party option -Like NoloVR (google)
Enviroment
Seated & Standing
** Roomscale requires 3rd party solution again like NoloVR
Fellow PiMax users please correct info if i have missed something.
I am just very bad at explaining my situation I guess…
All of this I had already known the problem is that when I go to open a game a popup occurs showing that the game will open two instances, one on my desktop and one in the hmd…
This works fine with producing the image in my hmd but it doesn’t work properly with the game, even while running different combinations of vorpx and oculus software etc.
My solution would be to run the game with revive however I do not want the two instances. Is there any way to run a game in steam with steamvr running but without running it in the two instances if I do not have a supported headset?
