Something i wanted to confirm which i think is important.
I’m hearing conflicting reports of what tracking version is used in headsets.
In an interview someone said that the stand alone headsets being mailed out will use steam 1.0 tracking. and the package headsets steam 2.0 This confuses me given 2.0 accessories will work with 1.0 lighthouses, and cuts off moving to tracking 2.0 for a number of users later. I don’t know of any good reason to have 1.0 sensors on those headsets.
The other reason i wanted to bring this up, is i have heard some people with packages say they want pimax to mail out their headsets first and rest of package later, but if all the above is true they may end up with a 1.0 headset and 2.0 base stations, which wont work together.
Is there any way we can get confirmation if the above is true?
I think that full packages are being all sent on February whileas the controllers added by their own (with ship costs added) I have also heard, can be shipped after shipping the HMDs. Dunno as I got a full package
the headset has the latest comms chip which means it will work with v2.0 lighthouses as well as 1.0
the only comment on the packages vs. normal was that they said if you already have a vive you CAN use your v1.0 but the headset itself (and controllers) support both 1.0 and 2.0
the only thing you can’t do is use 2.0 base stations with the HTC Vive as the Vive only supports 1.0 base stations
Can you link a source for this? In the Tested video that destraudo links the CEO clearly states that 8k headsets in the standalone tier will be 1.0 only.
Edit: I would like confirmation because I pledged at the “standalone” tier.
I added pokes to your post for a more official response.
My understanding is the standalone headsets & controllers will be version 2.0 tracking.
It would make very little sense to make 2 versions of the supported tracking system as it would make some headsets not compatiable with PiMax Lighthouses & make folks upset if they bought a fullbpackage & the headset didn’t work with the lighthouses received.
Tracking v2.0 is compatible with v1 accessories. Just v2.0 lighthouses are not backward compatiable with v1.0 lighthouses & accessories. (ie vive headset & controllers will not track with a PiMax lighthouse)
Source: kickstarter FAQ page, definitely implies that the headset will work with any base stations. Like @Heliosurge said, it wouldn’t make sense to make two diff versions of the headset.
Your welcome. In another thread we were discussing the demos. The demo PiMax lighthouses used were built using v1 design. Otherwise tge Vive wands would not have worked for reasons mentioned above & @bacon confirmed this.
