Finally got my pimax package late last week,
Didn’t get much time until tonight to have a go.
Setup,
Painless, installed the non beta as I wanted stability first up, installed, reboot. Turn on single base unit,
Plug in headset, detected base unit and headset and away we go.
Change some settings, pitool to 1, reprojection on, change settings in iRacing dxrenderer to 90, changed Supersampling to 90 in steamvr.
Note I left the firmware that came with the headset to what it was. Resisted the need to firmware update.
Into iRacing and wow, that’s crisp.
Start driving, solid 65 FPS in game. Not bad. That’s on a 1080 non ti not overclocked and a 6700k no overclock
Just had a race, 16 cars on track. The game Ran nicely at 60fps. I worked out I sweat a lot and need a tennis headband or something like that… hmmmm.
From a product viewpoint, the fov on the pimax is holy shit wow!!! When I’m in car it nearly feels like a real helmet viewpoint. You can move your head in this headset more like head look that eye look.
There’s nothing wrong with my headset, no bad pixels, no spots that I can notice, no cracks, the headband just sux, I have the comfort mod, makes it better but it’s still just odd.
I need to tilt it diagonal to get to to be perfectly clear but once it’s in a good spot the viewpoint and sweet spot is amazing considerabley better than the 4 other headsets I’ve used.
I can’t wait to get some controllers. But for now, I just need to sort the comfort and postioning a bit so it doesn’t shift mid race.
I didn’t really notice any distortion at the sides but only tried normal view and wasn’t expecting to. Was more dealing with a fog up/glasses/sweat issue.
Noticed I can use it without my glasses without losing much vision clarity, I think contacts are going to be a good thing for it.
Nose is a bit pinched. 62 ipd seems about right but I’m not noticing or trying hard to get it perfect yet.
Will have a look at others who have done any nose mods
Overall though, so far, so good. Looking forward to trying a few more games. Need to do some dirt rally practice. And will check out google earth vr and a few others.
